Sanctuary Personnel is currently seeking a Senior Staff Nurse to join our client's dynamic team. 

Role Purpose

The post holder will act as a practitioner with professional accountability to effectively plan, deliver, and evaluate care for a group of patients with a range of conditions within a recognised clinical area.

Role Context

This role operates across various clinical areas within acute and community services. Individuals at this level will be capable of planning and delivering care for complex or high-risk patients within their caseload and providing guidance and support to less experienced staff. They may be required to take charge of the ward or team and will be able to lead with confidence.

Key Accountabilities

Professional Input

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the guidelines of the NMC Code (2015) and apply these to maintain trust and credibility with patients, carers, and colleagues.
  • Stay fully up to date with developments within their professional discipline and maintain an adequate awareness of advancements in clinical and nursing practice, sharing clinical knowledge and experience.
  • Contribute to the development of a philosophy of care that encourages the creation of a therapeutic environment for patients.
  • Maintain a professional portfolio demonstrating the ongoing acquisition of skills, knowledge, attitudes, understanding, and achievement.

Nursing Practice

  • Co-ordinate the care for specific individual patients or patient groups by consistently compiling care plans that meet identified treatment goals, resulting in high-quality patient care.
  • Enhance nursing practice by acquiring knowledge and skills in reading, interpreting, and evaluating research to pursue evidence-based practice.
  • Contribute to setting and maintaining standards in the clinical area.
  • Participate in clinical audit and act as a role model in terms of own care delivery.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing investigations and treatment according to defined standards.
  • May be required to act as an independent supplementary prescriber within specific clinical areas agreed upon by the organisation.
  • Demonstrate effective infection prevention and challenge poor practice.
  • Consistently provide high-quality advice to patients, carers, and colleagues, acting as a health promoter and incorporating health promotion themes into nursing practice.
  • Take responsibility for the safeguarding and welfare of all children, adults, and/or families within their care and contact, being aware of and complying with all safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation and produce high-quality patient information.

Team Management, Building, and Working

  • Lead and direct the team when required.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating well-established networks and developing team-building skills.
  • Understand and promote team goals and effectively supervise junior staff.

Resource Management

  • Develop and maintain awareness of strategy and business planning processes, contributing to the development of the business plan for the clinical area.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the ward/departmental budget and the factors contributing to over/under-spending.
  • Act in a cost-conscious manner and significantly contribute to controlling expenditure within the area.

Training and Development

  • Seek opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, and experience and participate constructively in the Performance Review and Appraisal System, taking responsibility for lifelong learning.
  • Assist junior staff in identifying and meeting learning objectives by using the principles of teaching and learning.

Environmental Management

  • Make a significant contribution to the overall physical environment and the development of the Risk Management Plan for the area.
  • Contribute to the ongoing audit of infection control within the clinical area.
  • Understand and promote all health, safety, and security measures in line with government policies.

Key Skills, Knowledge, and Education

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse (Diploma/1st Degree)
  • 2 years post-qualifying experience
