Sanctuary Personnel is seeking dedicated professionals to join our client's adult disability service team, supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autism. This role offers a dynamic working environment across various settings, including residential homes, supported living, short break services, and outreach teams. Staff members are required to work shifts to provide 24-hour support.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate care and support programmes.
  • Manage crisis situations independently.
  • Provide planned care within the scope of experience, consulting senior staff when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records in line with standards.
  • Adhere to regulatory body standards and organisational guidelines.
  • Demonstrate evidence-based practice.
  • Safeguard service users according to policy.
  • Independently follow guidelines and protocols.
  • Take on shift leader responsibilities.
  • Manage service users' medication per policy.
  • Promote health and well-being through activities like horse riding, gym, and swimming.
  • Support service users in social activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments to enhance service users' opportunities.
  • Follow organisational policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adapt to duty roster changes based on service user needs.
  • Accept redeployment across service areas as needed.
  • Comply with Health and Safety regulations.
  • Apply appropriate moving and handling techniques.
  • Adhere to Data Protection Law.

Training and Education:

  • Engage in supervision and provide supervision to junior staff.
  • Complete and support training in safe moving and handling techniques.
  • Contribute to the service's ongoing development.
  • Undertake mandatory training essential to the role.
  • Develop skills to promote evidence-based practice, especially in autism knowledge.
  • Participate in annual appraisal and staff development.
  • Assist in the induction and training of new staff.
  • Provide active support and coaching to support staff.

Leadership/Managerial:

  • Purchase goods and services as needed for service users.
  • Gain leadership experience under the guidance of a line manager.
  • Coordinate and lead a team.
  • Manage duty rosters.
  • Handle incidents and accidents according to policy.
  • Liaise independently with multidisciplinary team members and associated agencies.
  • Resolve conflicts and service user-related issues.

Audit/Information Technology/Research Activity:

  • Participate in audits as required.

Revalidation (for nursing applicants only):

  • Maintain effective registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Proactively manage all aspects of revalidation, including maintaining a portfolio and engaging in continuing education.
  • Support colleagues with their revalidation requirements.

Key Criteria

Essential Qualifications:

  • Registered Health or Social Care Professional (e.g., Nurse, Speech and Language Therapist, OT, Registered Behaviour Technician, Social Worker) OR Degree in health and social care with proven experience in supporting people with learning disabilities and autism.

Skills, Knowledge, and Aptitude:

  • Good IT skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Valid driving licence (flexible depending on the area).
  • Leadership skills.
  • Caring and empathetic nature.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with autism.
  • Understanding of learning disabilities.
  • Understanding of person-centred care and positive behavioural support.

This role offers a competitive salary, annual bonus, progressive annual leave, and pension scheme eligibility. Previous substantive NHS service may count towards entitlements to annual leave, maternity leave, and sick pay. Additional benefits include a £3,000 bonus on the second and fourth anniversary of employment and a relocation package for those moving to the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Off-Island candidates receive an 8-year Long Term Employment Permit, allowing immediate family members to work on the Island. Subsidised accommodation is available for those relocating.
