Sanctuary Personnel is seeking a dedicated professional to join our client's Adult Disability Service team, which supports individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism. The role offers diverse working environments, including residential homes, supported living, short break services, and the outreach team. Staff work on a shift system providing 24-hour support and engage in all aspects of maintaining the service area using the active support model. This includes activities such as cleaning, shopping, washing, ironing, and cooking, encouraging service user participation.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties:

  • Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate care and support programmes.
  • Independently manage crisis situations and provide planned care.
  • Maintain accurate records in both electronic and paper formats.
  • Adhere to professional standards and guidelines.
  • Safeguard service users according to organisational policies.
  • Undertake shift leader responsibilities and manage service user medication.
  • Support and accompany service users in person-centred social activities.
  • Carry out risk assessments to maximise service user opportunities.
  • Work in accordance with relevant policies, procedures, and standards.

Training and Education:

  • Participate in personal and junior staff supervision.
  • Complete and provide training in safe moving and handling techniques.
  • Contribute to the service’s ongoing development and philosophy.
  • Engage in mandatory training and personal skill development.
  • Assist in the learning and assessment of junior staff and the induction of new staff.
  • Deliver training and mentorship within the team.

Leadership and Management:

  • Purchase goods and services based on service user needs.
  • Gain experience in providing leadership to junior staff in liaison with the line manager.
  • Coordinate and lead a team, manage rotas, and handle incident reports.

Communication:

  • Liaise and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members and associated agencies.
  • Handle conflict and resolve service user-related issues or refer them to appropriate professionals.
  • Provide and receive complex, sensitive, or contentious information.

Audit, IT, and Research:

  • Participate in audits as required.

Revalidation:

  • Maintain effective registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and manage all aspects of revalidation requirements.
  • Assist colleagues with their revalidation, including providing support, teaching, and feedback.
  • Act as a Confirmer if required by the organisation.

Key Criteria:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered Health or Social Care Professional (e.g., Nurse, Speech and Language Therapist, OT, Registered Behaviour Technician, or Social Worker) OR Degree in Health and Social Care with proven experience in supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism.

Essential Skills:

  • Good IT skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Valid driving licence (negotiable with the manager depending on the area).
  • Leadership skills.
  • Caring and empathetic nature.
  • Understanding of learning disabilities and/or autism.
  • Knowledge of person-centred care and support.
  • Understanding of positive behavioural support.
