Sanctuary Personnel are seeking dedicated professionals to join our client's adult disability service team, supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism. The role can be based in various settings including residential homes, supported living, short break services, and outreach teams. Staff will work a shift system that provides support 24 hours a day.

Staff are involved in all aspects of maintaining the living area using the active support model, which may include cleaning, shopping, washing, ironing, and cooking. Service users will be encouraged to participate in these activities with the staff.

A driving licence is required as staff may need to drive service vehicles, although the manager can offer flexibility with this requirement. Band 5 staff are expected to coordinate and lead a team within the service, as well as develop and implement programmes of care and support.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate care and support programmes.
  • Independently manage crisis situations as needed.
  • Provide planned care and support within the scope of experience, referring to senior staff when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of care/support provided.
  • Adhere to regulatory standards and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate evidence-based practice.
  • Safeguard service users following organisational policies and guidelines.
  • Manage service users' medication per the Adult Disability Medication Policy.
  • Support and accompany service users in person-centred social activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments to maximise service user opportunities.
  • Comply with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Work shifts, including potentially short-notice changes, across a 24-hour period.
  • Accept redeployment within the service as required.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and data protection laws.

Training and Education:

  • Participate in own supervision and provide supervision to junior staff.
  • Complete mandatory training and support staff in safe practices.
  • Contribute to the service's philosophy and training/education development.
  • Maintain and develop skills to promote evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in annual appraisals.
  • Assist in the learning, development, and assessment of junior staff.
  • Facilitate the induction process for new staff and deliver training/mentorship.
  • Provide active support and one-to-one coaching as needed.

Leadership/Managerial:

  • Purchase goods and services as required for service users.
  • Gain leadership experience with guidance from line managers.
  • Coordinate and lead a team, including rota management.
  • Manage incidents using approved reporting systems and following procedures.

Communication:

  • Liaise and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members and associated agencies.
  • Handle conflicts and resolve service user-related issues, referring to professionals or agencies as necessary.
  • Provide and receive complex and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Audit/Information Technology/Research Activity:
  • Participate in audits as required.

Revalidation:

  • Maintain effective registration with relevant professional bodies.
  • Proactively manage all aspects of revalidation requirements.
  • Assist colleagues with their revalidation processes, including providing support and feedback.
  • Escalate any issues related to revalidation to senior staff immediately.

Key Criteria:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered Health or Social Care Professional (e.g., Nurse, Speech and Language Therapist, OT, Registered Behaviour Technician, or Social Worker) OR Degree in Health and Social Care with proven experience in supporting people with learning disabilities and/or autism.

Essential Skills:

  • Good IT skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driving licence (negotiable with the manager).
  • Leadership skills.
  • Caring and empathetic nature.
  • Understanding of learning disabilities and/or autism.
  • Understanding of person-centred care and support.
  • Understanding of positive behavioural support.
