Sanctuary Personnel is seeking dedicated professionals to join our client's adult disability service team supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism. The role involves working in various settings such as residential homes, supported living, short break services, and outreach teams. Staff are required to work shifts providing 24-hour support and participate in maintaining the area through active support, involving service users in activities like cleaning, shopping, and cooking. A driving licence is preferred for driving service vehicles, although there is some flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate care and support programmes.
  • Manage crises independently based on service user needs.
  • Provide planned care autonomously within your experience level, referring to senior staff as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of care and support.
  • Adhere to regulatory standards and organisational policies.
  • Practice evidence-based care and safeguard service users.
  • Lead shifts and manage service user medication.
  • Support and participate in health-promoting activities.
  • Carry out risk assessments and support person-centred social activities.
  • Comply with all relevant policies and procedures, including Health and Safety and Data Protection.
  • Undertake shift work as per the duty roster and accept redeployment if needed.

Training and Education:

  • Engage in supervision with your manager and provide supervision to junior staff.
  • Complete mandatory training and support staff in safe moving and handling techniques.
  • Contribute to service development and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Assist in the induction and training of new and junior staff.

Leadership and Managerial Duties:

  • Purchase goods and services for service users as needed.
  • Gain leadership experience and manage junior staff.
  • Coordinate and lead a team and manage rota schedules.
  • Handle accidents/incidents according to approved procedures.

Communication:

  • Liaise effectively with multidisciplinary team members and associated agencies.
  • Address conflicts and service user-related issues, referring to appropriate professionals when necessary.
  • Handle complex and sensitive information.

Audit, IT, and Research:

  • Participate in audits as required.

Revalidation:

  • Maintain effective registration with the UK Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and adhere to revalidation requirements.
  • Proactively manage your revalidation portfolio and support colleagues with theirs.

Key Criteria

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered Health or Social Care Professional (e.g., Nurse, Speech and Language Therapist, OT, Registered Behaviour Technician, or Social Worker) OR Degree in Health and Social Care with proven experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficient IT skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Valid driving licence (negotiable with the manager)
  • Strong leadership abilities
  • Caring and empathetic nature
  • Good understanding of learning disabilities and/or autism
  • Knowledge of person-centred care and positive behavioural support

Additional Information

This position offers a competitive salary, annual bonus, progressive annual leave, and a pension scheme. Previous NHS service can be considered towards leave and other entitlements. There is also a £3,000 bonus payable on the second and fourth employment anniversary.

For candidates relocating to the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a relocation package is available, along with an 8-year Long Term Employment Permit allowing immediate family members to work on the Island. Subsidised accommodation is also provided for relocating candidates.
