Sanctuary Personnel is currently seeking dedicated professionals to join our client's adult disability service, supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism. This position offers the opportunity to work across various settings, including residential homes, supported living, short break services, and the outreach team.

Job Summary

The role requires flexibility and a commitment to a shift system that provides support 24 hours a day. As part of their team, you will be involved in all aspects of maintaining the environment using the active support model, encouraging service users to participate in daily activities such as cleaning, shopping, and cooking.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care and support.
  • Initiate crisis management as needed.
  • Provide planned care autonomously, referring to senior staff when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of care provided.
  • Adhere to professional standards and guidelines.
  • Safeguard service users according to policy.
  • Manage medication as per the Adult Disability Medication Policy.
  • Participate in health-promoting activities with service users.
  • Conduct risk assessments to maximise service-user opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety policies.
  • Perform shift leader responsibilities and accept redeployment as required.

Training and Education

  • Participate in personal supervision and provide supervision to junior staff.
  • Complete mandatory training and support staff in safe practices.
  • Contribute to service development and training.
  • Maintain and develop skills to promote evidence-based practice.
  • Assist in the induction and development of new and junior staff.
  • Deliver training and mentorship within the team.

Leadership and Management

  • Purchase goods and services as needed for service users.
  • Gain leadership experience and coordinate a team.
  • Manage shift rotas and handle incidents according to procedures.

Communication

  • Effectively liaise with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies.
  • Resolve conflicts and service user-related problems, referring to appropriate professionals as necessary.
  • Handle complex, sensitive, or contentious information appropriately.

Audit and Research

  • Participate in audits as required.

Key Criteria

Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered Health or Social Care Professional (e.g., Nurse, Speech and Language Therapist, OT, Registered Behaviour Technician, Social Worker) or Degree in Health and Social Care with proven experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism.
  • Essential Skills and Attributes
  • Good IT skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Valid driving licence (flexibility may apply).
  • Leadership skills.
  • Caring and empathetic nature.
  • Understanding of learning disabilities and/or autism.
  • Knowledge of person-centred care and positive behavioural support.

A full DBS check will be undertaken for this role. Benefits include a competitive salary, annual bonus, progressive annual leave, and a pension scheme. Previous service in a substantive post in the NHS will be considered towards entitlements.

This position also offers a bonus of £3,000 payable on the second and fourth anniversary of employment. For those relocating to the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a comprehensive relocation package is available, tailored to individual circumstances.

An 8-year Long Term Employment Permit is provided, allowing the candidate to bring immediate family members, who will also be permitted to work on the Island.
