Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine – Full-Time Position

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine to join a well-respected NHS Trust in Whitehaven. As a Consultant in Geriatrics, you will play a vital role in shaping and enhancing the frailty services at the Trust, providing exceptional care for older adults, and working alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and collaborate with colleagues to develop an acute frailty pathway and enhance existing frailty services.
  • Provide teaching, training, and supervision for Junior Doctors, Medical Students, and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Take responsibility for the care of patients on the Care of the Elderly wards at the hospital.
  • Share in the educational and clinical supervision responsibilities for Junior Doctors in training.
  • Engage in personal development and mandatory training to maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
  • Contribute to clinical meetings, postgraduate activities, and research initiatives within the Trust.
  • Participate in clinical trials and support research and teaching projects.
  • Collaborate closely with specialist teams to deliver integrated care for patients.
  • Support managers and colleagues in ensuring the efficient operation of services.
  • Undertake administrative duties to ensure smooth patient care and the effective running of clinical areas.
  • Assist in the preparation of business plans and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
  • Support the Booked Appointment Systems and other patient scheduling protocols.
  • Regularly participate in Consultant Appraisals and Job Plan reviews, ensuring professional development and revalidation.

Essential Requirements:

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Specialist Registration in Geriatrics and General Internal Medicine (GIM), with MRCP or equivalent qualifications.
  • Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT, CESR, or European Community Rights (CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview).
  • Extensive clinical experience in Geriatrics and GIM, with completed Higher Specialist Training (CCT) or evidence of equivalent competency.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Proven ability to take full and independent responsibility for patient care.
