Role Overview:
As a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, you will be at the forefront of providing expert care in respiratory diagnostics and treatment. Your role will include offering diagnostic bronchoscopy services, providing specialist opinions, and supporting both acute unselected medicine on-call and inpatient management. You will oversee a team consisting of middle grades, clinical fellows, and foundation year doctors, providing mentorship and expert guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a diagnostic bronchoscopy service and expert respiratory medicine opinions.
- Manage acute unselected medicine on-call and provide leadership to inpatient wards.
- Oversee and manage the inpatient ward with responsibilities for between 13-18 patients, depending on the ward workload.
- Supervise an inpatient medical team, including middle-grade doctors, clinical fellows, and foundation year doctors.
- Provide respiratory medicine input to other wards through the specialist referral process.
- Actively contribute to management and audit activities within the Medical Services Care Group, ensuring high standards of care.
- Take part in the Risk Management programme and support the Governance agenda.
- Represent the service at hospital meetings, providing leadership and expert guidance.
- Be adaptable, flexible, and innovative in meeting the ongoing challenges within the service.
- A mentor from a named acute medicine consultant and a dedicated appraiser will be available to support your professional growth.
Requirements:
- Primary Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent).
- Extensive experience in General Medicine and Respiratory Medicine.
- Experience in managing NIV and CPAP services.
- Higher Specialty Qualification (MRCP or equivalent).
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a Licence to Practice.
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of obtaining this at the time of interview).
- Ability to demonstrate your Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent in Respiratory Medicine/GIM.
