Consultant in Upper Gastro-Intestinal Surgery – Full-Time Position

We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Consultant in Upper Gastro-Intestinal (GI) Surgery to join a highly regarded NHS Trust in Carlisle on a full-time, permanent basis.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert care in both elective and emergency General Surgery and Upper GI services as part of a collaborative team of consultants.
- Participate in a four-tier 24/7 on-call rota at the Trust, including:
- 1 in 6 weekdays as first on-call
- 1 in 6 second on-call
- 1 in 12 weekday nights
- 1 in 12 weekends
- Manage general surgical emergencies, with 24-hour emergency theatre access and a dedicated CEPOD (Same-day Emergency Surgery) list (8 am - 5 pm).
- Deliver high-quality care in the management of Upper GI and general surgery conditions, both elective and emergency.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including medical, clinical, and managerial colleagues, to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.
- Take on leadership and management roles, with opportunities for development and training provided by the Trust.
- Participate in annual job plan reviews, and explore potential opportunities for portfolio roles in academia, leadership, and medical education.
- Benefit from administrative support and resources provided by the Trust to effectively manage your workload.
Essential Requirements:
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Specialist Registration for Upper GI Surgery, with MRCS or equivalent qualifications.
- Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT, CESR, or European Community Rights (CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview).
- Extensive clinical experience in Upper GI and General Surgery, with completed Higher Specialist Training (CCT) or evidence of equivalent competency.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, colleagues, and managers.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for patient care, delivering the highest standards of clinical practice.
