Role Responsibilities
As a Consultant in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, you will play a key role in providing high-quality care and support to children and young people with acute mental health issues, while also contributing to service development and training. Your responsibilities will include:
- Clinical Care: Diagnose and manage a range of psychiatric disorders in children and young people, including self-harm, suicidal ideation, low mood, psychotic symptoms, and substance misuse.
- Crisis Management: Provide support to the multidisciplinary team during periods of crisis, ensuring timely and effective interventions for young people in acute mental health distress.
- Consultation & Liaison: Offer expert consultation and liaison with other medical specialties, education providers, social services, and external agencies to ensure coordinated care.
- Training & Development: Develop and deliver training programmes for a variety of disciplines to enhance expertise and improve the standard of care within the mental health services.
- Supervision & Teaching: Provide supervision to mental health professionals and contribute to the psychiatry teaching programme.
- Service Collaboration: Work collaboratively with managers and other professional colleagues to ensure the efficient operation of services and contribute to the overall management of the service.
- Policy Compliance: Ensure adherence to Health and Community Services policies and procedures.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, you will need:
- Primary Medical Degree.
- Full GMC Registration & License to Practice.
- Registered on the GMC Specialist Register or CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (or within 6 months of this at the time of interview).
- Eligibility for Section 12 approval (Mental Health Law Approval).
- Experience in assessing and treating children and young people in both acute and community psychiatric settings.
- Specialty experience in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
- Proven experience in crisis intervention and managing mental health emergencies.
