Sanctuary Personnel have an exciting opportunity which has arisen for a Sister/Charge Nurse in our client's Intensive Care Unit. With the support of a strong senior team, you will have the chance to enhance your ICU skills while taking on additional responsibilities to support patient care. Candidates must demonstrate the following:

  • Evidence of completed management/leadership competencies relevant to the role
  • Experience with paediatric patients
  • Ability to identify areas for development and implement changes in practice

Job Purpose

  • To plan, deliver, and evaluate care for patients with a variety of conditions and contribute to the advancement of clinical services by developing skills and expertise in key areas.
  • Nurses at this level will support their managers across a range of clinical and managerial responsibilities.

Key Accountabilities

Professional Leadership

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the NMC Code (2015) and apply it to maintain trust and credibility with patients, carers, and colleagues.
  • Support the clinical manager in providing professional leadership to the department or community team, significantly contributing to a specialty service by developing effective leadership skills and sharing clinical knowledge to improve nursing practice.
  • Contribute to developing a philosophy of care to create and maintain a constructive working atmosphere and learning environment.
  • Maintain a professional portfolio demonstrating the continuous acquisition of skills, knowledge, attitudes, understanding, and achievements.

Nursing Practice

  • Support the manager to define, set, and maintain appropriate clinical standards, leading the planning of overall client care, and directing the care team as needed to deliver high-quality care programmes within the service area.
  • Demonstrate enhanced nursing practice and act as a role model in care delivery by acquiring knowledge and skills to support an evidence-based, client-centred service, providing high-quality advice to patients, carers, and colleagues.
  • Ensure infection prevention and control principles are embedded within the ward/departmental area, demonstrating effective infection prevention practices and challenging poor practices. May act as a nurse independent supplementary prescriber.
  • Support the manager in auditing the effectiveness of the complaints procedure, ensuring complaints are promptly and effectively handled, with proper investigations and actions taken to reduce recurrence.

Resource Management

  • Contribute to budget management, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and fostering a "value for money" culture that encourages self-sufficiency and flexible working practices.
  • Contribute to managing all relevant Human Resources procedures fairly and effectively.
  • Develop and maintain an induction programme for all new staff, ensuring adherence to all Health and Social Services policies and procedures.

Knowledge Requirements

  • 1st level Registered Nurse – Diploma or Degree equivalent
  • 4 years post-qualifying experience, including 2 years recent experience in the specialty area
  • Working towards 120 credits at level 6 (1st Degree equivalent) in a health-related field
  • Relevant post-qualifying specialty award
  • Management or Leadership award/qualification/module
