The salary for this permanent Charge Nurse job is £45,000 - £48,000 per annum.

Main Duties:

  • Serve as a key member of the multidisciplinary care team, with ongoing responsibility for assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating care. Communicate findings, influence change, and promote both mental and physical health, ensuring best practices for service user safety and overall experience.
  • Conduct comprehensive and systematic nursing assessments that consider mental, physical, social, cultural, psychological, spiritual, and environmental factors. Engage with service users and others through interaction, observation, and measurement to inform these assessments.
  • Oversee and complete clinical audits on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, ensuring adherence to standards and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines, service users, and their carers to develop holistic, recovery-focused, person-centred care and risk management plans based on assessment findings.
  • Deliver and evaluate safe, competent, person-centred care in partnership with service users and their carers to support their recovery journey.
  • Act as the primary nurse for assigned patients, responsible for planning, assessing, and evaluating their care programmes.
  • Adhere to medicines management protocols, including the proper storage and administration of medications. Ensure all prescriptions and documentation are up-to-date and meet professional standards.
  • Ensure that patients are fully aware of their rights, and work to maintain and protect these rights in accordance with legislation.
  • Provide comprehensive support to patients in all aspects of their care and treatment, fostering a therapeutic environment.
  • Support the development of junior nursing colleagues through training, mentorship, and role modeling, contributing to their professional growth and the overall quality of care at the hospital.

Requirements of the Charge Nurse:

  • Registered Nurse: Hold an active NMC PIN with at least 2 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Relevant Clinical Experience: Possess relevant experience in a clinical setting.
  • Positive Attitude: Show a commitment to change, improvement, and maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Innovative Practice: Ability to develop and implement flexible and innovative approaches to practice.
  • Communication Skills: Exhibit excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication abilities.
  • Clinical and Leadership Experience: Possess the expertise and confidence necessary to support and guide the wider nursing team effectively.
  • Team-Oriented: Demonstrate a strong commitment to working collaboratively, focusing on the development and delivery of evidence-based, clinically effective treatments that exceed client expectations.
  • Proven Leadership: Have a successful track record of managing a nursing team while upholding the highest professional standards.
  • Adaptability: Show the ability to respond flexibly to changes and the evolving needs of the service.
  • Deputising Ability: Be prepared to step in for the Clinical Services Manager when necessary, with a willingness to develop and expand on current roles and responsibilities.
  • Role Model: Act as a role model for peers, consistently demonstrating core values and setting clear expectations for others.
