The salary for this permanent Neonatal Sister job is £61,529 - £65,805 per annum.

Main Duties:

  • Lead the multi-disciplinary team in identifying, reporting, and escalating clinical safety concerns, identified risks, and compromised care issues to the Ward (Unit) Manager/Lead Nurse.
  • Maintain a strong presence in the clinical area, effectively prioritizing, delegating, coordinating, and managing all aspects of the shift, while providing support and guidance to colleagues.
  • Conduct clinical tasks and risk assessments on neonates, including but not limited to urinalysis, physiological measurements, blood sugar testing, infant feeding, venepuncture, cannulation, swabs, stool samples, sputum specimens, and accurately record findings on EPR/PEWS, escalating concerns as needed.
  • Advocate for babies and their families by providing information and directing them to relevant support services when appropriate.
  • Ensure the safeguarding and welfare of all babies and their families under care, adhering to all safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Document all neonatal care accurately and within agreed timescales, in compliance with NMC/HCPC and Health & Community Services standards, and ensure adherence to all relevant policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines, escalating any concerns or breaches.
  • Proactively manage risks by raising learning points through DATIX and collaborating with colleagues to reduce risks in all areas of service delivery in alignment with clinical governance standards.

Requirements of the Neonatal Sister:

  • Registration with NMC or HCPC
  • Degree in Healthcare or equivalent
  • Certification in Neonatal Life Support
  • Neonatal Specialty Qualification
  • Level 3 Safeguarding Qualification
  • Clinical skills qualifications (e.g., BFI, cannulation, and venepuncture)
  • Qualification in teaching and assessing
  • Completion of a leadership course
