Sanctuary Personnel is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our client's dynamic healthcare team at a well-regarded facility in Alderney. This role involves supervising and participating in the professional development of both registered and unregistered nursing staff, ensuring that high standards of care are maintained across the board.

Job Purpose:

As an experienced and skilled nurse, you will:

  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff, contributing to their professional growth and development.
  • Assist newly appointed staff in their preceptorship, ensuring they adhere to established procedures and policies.
  • Work across various areas within a hospital setting that includes acute care beds, elderly care, and a minor injuries room.
  • Act as the named nurse responsible for the full cycle of patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Deliver care in line with the ward's philosophy and adhere to all relevant health and social care policies.
  • Coordinate the ward under the direction of the ward manager and senior team, providing leadership and support to your colleagues.
  • Offer clinical supervision to enhance the skills of the nursing team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Practice and Philosophy of Nursing:

  • Understand and adhere to the ward’s philosophy, working towards its aims and objectives.
  • Apply nursing theories, models, and healthcare documentation to daily practice.
  • Manage care planning and service provision for patients.
  • Ensure effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Strive for positive outcomes by adhering to agreed standards of nursing care.
  • Participate actively in the Revalidation process as per NMC guidelines.
  • Comply with the local professional practice framework.
  • Perform nursing procedures in line with established clinical guidelines.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Mentor junior nurses and learners, guiding them through competency programmes.
  • Facilitate the learning and development of both qualified and unregistered staff, enabling them to achieve their professional goals.
  • Coordinate clinical areas under senior team guidance.
  • Maintain and develop your own clinical skills to support evidence-based practice.
  • Supervise patients in all aspects of their care, providing professional advice as needed.
  • Recognise your own limitations and seek guidance from more experienced nurses when necessary.
  • Engage in clinical supervision.

Role Development:

  • Participate in formal appraisals to set and achieve professional development targets.
  • Undertake additional training as required by the ward manager and Clinical Lead.
  • Support the ward manager and senior team in delivering high standards of care.
  • Collaborate with key members of the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care.

Health and Safety:

  • Report any accidents or incidents and complete the necessary documentation.
  • Follow safe moving and handling procedures, including the use of equipment.
  • Be proficient in basic life support and familiar with resuscitation equipment.
  • Adhere to fire safety regulations and know how to use fire safety equipment.
  • Comply with infection control policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the safe use and maintenance of ward equipment, considering health and safety guidelines.
  • Understand the Major Incident Procedure and attend mandatory training sessions on fire safety, basic life support, and safe moving and handling.

Key Criteria:

Minimum Criteria:

  • Current Registration with the NMC.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Completion of the Practice Assessor/Supervisors course.
  • Portfolio evidence meeting the agreed competence criteria level.
  • Completion of ‘A’ unit or D32/D33 Assessors course.
