Sanctuary Personnel is seeking a dedicated professional to join our client's adult disability service team, which supports individuals with learning disabilities. This role offers the flexibility to be based in various settings including residential homes, supported living, short break services, and outreach teams.

Staff will work on a shift system that provides support 24 hours a day. Responsibilities include maintaining the environment through the active support model, which may involve cleaning, shopping, washing, ironing, and cooking. Service users are encouraged to participate in these activities alongside staff.

A driving licence is required for this role, as staff may need to drive service vehicles. However, there is some flexibility with this requirement. Band 6 staff are expected to coordinate and lead a team, as well as develop and implement care and support programmes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Assess service users with complex needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate care programmes.
  • Guide, advise, and direct other staff in the care process.
  • Undertake risk assessments to minimise health and wellbeing risks for service users.
  • Lead staff teams in emergency situations, ensuring the needs of service users and their significant others are met.
  • Use information from various sources to identify service users' needs and guide decision-making.
  • Adhere to standards, codes, and guidelines set by the regulatory body and organisational policies.
  • Promote service user involvement in care planning and evaluation.
  • Safeguard service users according to organisational policies and guidelines.

Training and Education:

  • Lead health promotion activities for service users and their significant others.
  • Act as a supervisor, mentor, and preceptor to staff and students.
  • Foster an environment conducive to quality learning and assessment.
  • Develop learning programmes to meet staff educational needs.
  • Maintain personal professional development and work towards achieving graduate status.
  • Develop and maintain skills relevant to the needs of service users.
  • Complete in-house annual mandatory training.

Leadership/Managerial:

  • Contribute to the recruitment and retention of team members.
  • Coordinate a team of staff, ensuring effective communication and addressing work-related issues.
  • Ensure team awareness of organisational objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct professional development reviews and support staff with performance issues.
  • Serve as a professional role model for junior staff.
  • Assist with roster planning and budget management as delegated.
  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of the annual business plan.
  • Act up in the absence of the manager.

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with service users and their significant others, considering cultural backgrounds and cognitive functioning.
  • Communicate clearly with all multidisciplinary team members.
  • Manage conflicts between individuals, including staff and service users.
  • Advocate for service users and their significant others.
  • Ensure written communication complies with organisational and professional standards.

Audit/Information Technology/Research Activity:

Initiate and undertake clinical audits to maintain standards of practice.

  • Manage the incident reporting system, documenting risks impacting service user care.
  • Promote evidence-based practice.
  • Lead the development of practice standards.
  • Access relevant organisational electronic information systems.

Revalidation:

  • Maintain effective registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) by adhering to revalidation requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of revalidation, including maintaining a portfolio and seeking professional development opportunities.
  • Assist colleagues with revalidation, including teaching and providing feedback.
  • Escalate any issues with revalidation requirements to a senior nurse or midwife.

Key Criteria:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse or Social Worker
  • Evidence of CPD at diploma level

Full Qualifications:

  • Teaching/mentoring qualification
  • Diploma in a related field
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement or equivalent (D32/33, NVQ A1)

Essential:

  • Good IT skills

  • Valid driving licence (negotiable with manager depending on area)
  • Leadership and management skills
  • Caring and empathetic nature
  • Understanding of learning disabilities and/or willingness to learn
