Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Registered Nurse on the Medical/Surgical Oncology Team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Administering chemotherapy, biotherapy, and immunotherapy treatments while closely monitoring patient responses.
  • Acting as a primary care nurse, assessing patient and family needs, and developing personalised care plans.
  • Collaborating with Oncologists, Pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to evaluate treatment plans and ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Educating patients and families about treatment protocols, side effects, and follow-up care.
  • Consulting with Oncologists regarding patient progress and any changes in their condition.
  • Participating in Quality Improvement activities and contributing to research initiatives as required.
  • Serving as a mentor and role model for new staff and peers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
  • Performing additional nursing and delegated medical acts in line with patient needs and clinical priorities.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Registered Nurse qualification with a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration with the Bermuda Nursing Council (or eligibility to obtain it).
  • A minimum of two years of current post-graduate experience as an Oncology Nurse administering chemotherapy.
  • Current certifications: BCLS (required).
  • Oncology Clinical Nurse Certification (ONC™) or Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) preferred.
  • Chemotherapy Biotherapy certification preferred.
  • Excellent intravenous skills, including starting, maintaining, and troubleshooting IVs. Experience with implanted ports is essential.
