Sanctuary Personnel is recruiting for a temporary Plant Operator to work in Leicester. These positions are initially on a locum contract, offering an hourly rate of £11.98 - £14.50.

The Role: The purpose of the Plant Operator is to oversee the acceptance of waste into the Waste Transfer Station (WTS), ensuring appropriate segregation, sorting, and bulking for onward transport to treatment destinations. The role involves regularly operating plant such as loading shovels, telehandlers, and forklift trucks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out duties individually or as part of a team to maximise recycling at the facility.
  • Assist in maximising and improving the segregation of recyclables on site, including picking and sorting waste from trade customers.
  • Operate the site’s loading shovel, telehandler, waste master, RORO shunter, forklift truck, and other heavy plant equipment as directed by the Team Leader.
  • Undertake cleaning and oversee the maintenance of all mobile plant on site.
  • Conduct regular inspections in line with agreed timescales.
  • Ensure the site’s opening and closing times are adhered to in accordance with the relevant site permit and Council operating procedures.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Loading Shovel Ticket or willingness to gain the qualification within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Experience: Previous experience operating waste transfer heavy plant such as telehandlers or loading shovels.
  • Compliance: Proof of the right to work in the UK and 2 x references.
  • Travel: Clean UK driving licence with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week.
