Sanctuary Personnel is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a reputable highways maintenance team in Exeter. This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially-minded professional with experience in small to medium-sized contracts to play a key role in delivering cost-effective, high-quality projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maximise commercial returns on contracts by driving value for money and efficiency.
  • Review and report on project costs and values, providing regular updates to operations.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts from procurement to final account settlement.
  • Prepare accurate applications for payment, invoices, and supporting documentation.
  • Produce monthly forecasts, valuation reports, and cost value reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Support operational teams by providing commercial advice and contractual support.
  • Attend progress meetings and maintain accurate project records.
  • Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to foster strong relationships and ensure contractual compliance.

Candidate Requirements
To excel in this role, the ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the industry.
  • Proven track record working on small to medium-sized contracts.
  • Strong understanding of labour, plant, and material costing.
  • Experience in valuations, applications for payments, and variations.
  • Skills in placing subcontract orders and managing pre-let meetings.
  • Knowledge of measurement, rates, build-up, and cost control.
  • Previous experience in a commercial role within a highways maintenance environment.
