Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room, you will play a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care. Key responsibilities include:

  • Scrub and Circulating Nurse Duties: Assist during a wide range of operative procedures, including Laparoscopy, Endoscopy, Trauma emergencies, Orthopedics, Pediatric, ENT, Maternity, Gynecological, Ophthalmology, Urology, Vascular, and Plastics.
  • Anaesthetic Support: Act as an Anaesthetic Nurse, supporting the anaesthetist during induction and throughout the anaesthetic period.
  • Patient Monitoring: Assess and monitor patients’ clinical conditions, taking appropriate action to ensure surgical safety.
  • Team Leadership: Function as a Charge Nurse or team leader when required, utilising clinical, hospital, and community resources effectively.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in Quality Improvement activities and approved research projects to enhance care delivery.
  • Mentorship: Serve as a mentor and role model for junior staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Professional Development: Take responsibility for your growth through continuing education, staying current with medical advancements and literature.

Qualifications and Registration Requirements
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Registered Nurse qualification with a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration with the Bermuda Nursing Council (BNC) (or eligibility to obtain it).
  • A minimum of two years of current Operating Room experience in an acute care setting.
  • Certifications: CPR and IV (required); ACLS (preferred).
  • Strong physical assessment skills and demonstrated clinical competencies.
