Sanctuary Personnel is recruiting for a Waste Sites Operation Officer to join a dynamic team in Leicestershire. This is a full-time locum role offering £20 per hour. The role is a hands-on management position requiring travel to the Council’s RHWSs (Recycling and Household Waste Sites) and WTSs (Waste Transfer Stations) daily.

Key Candidate Requirements:

  • Good IT skills with familiarity in MS Office or equivalent packages.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with colleagues and customers.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Experience in customer service, particularly in dealing with queries and complaints.
  • Experience in contract management and the management of waste operations.
  • Experience in supervising and managing employees in the waste management industry or a similar workplace.
  • Experience in delivering training packages to staff and stakeholders.
  • Valid UK driver’s licence for driving up to a 3.5 tonne vehicle, with access to own vehicle and insurance for business use.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a hands-on, management-focused role with a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • HR-related Tasks: Support the onboarding process for new starters, conduct one-to-one meetings, manage return-to-work processes, and carry out Annual Performance Reviews. Assist with intermediate policy processes such as writing and implementing support plans, personal risk assessments, occupational health referrals, and investigations into disciplinary matters, attendance issues, or poor performance.
  • Training Delivery: Develop and deliver training packages through workbooks, e-learning support, toolbox talks, and safety briefings. Ensure that staff are well-equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to perform their duties safely and effectively.
  • Site Safety and Compliance: Draft, monitor, and enforce safe systems of work and risk assessments for all site operations. Ensure that records for waste movements are accurate and appropriately filed, in line with the site’s Environmental Permit and Waste Duty of Care. Ensure compliance with the Council’s Quality Management System for processes at the RHWS.Stock Control: Manage and oversee the effective stock control of consumables, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), uniforms, equipment, and fuel required for site operations
  • Driving: On occasion, drive a Council 3.5 tonne box van to support operational needs.
  • Customer Complaints: Handle intermediate complaints from customers, face-to-face, by telephone, and by email, ensuring that issues are resolved promptly and professionally.
  • PPE and Uniform: PPE and some uniform requirements will be provided, including the potential use of a Body Worn Camera (BWC). The BWC will only record footage when activated by the holder, and is a part of the uniform for all field-based staff unless reasonable adjustments are required.
