Sanctuary Personnel is currently seeking a Head of Clinical Services to join our client's dynamic team.

Purpose

You will be responsible for maintaining the quality and standards of care delivered in line with the fundamental standards of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) or relevant statutory bodies. This includes managing the provision of care services within the delegated budget, adhering to agreed service specifications, and meeting defined outcome measures.

Key Relationships

  • Line management responsibility across all clinical services
  • Collaborate with and support volunteers within your team
  • Foster good working relationships with internal stakeholders: Service Director, direct reports, medical teams, other heads of clinical services, clinical quality team
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders: Local CQC/Care Inspectorate inspectors, Quality Leads for Integrated Care Boards (ICB), and partner organisations. Build networks with experts at local and national levels.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage the budget for day-to-day care services, ensuring effective use of resources and expenditure control
  • Identify and manage risks impacting care, experience, or safety, ensuring they are mitigated and reported
  • Ensure clinical services meet relevant Care Standards Act, Environmental Standards, and Health and Safety requirements
  • Serve as a role model within the multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating advanced knowledge and leadership skills
  • Deputise for the Service Director when needed, including senior management team on-call duties
  • Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, providing forward-thinking clinical and professional leadership to nursing and care staff
  • Lead and manage the care team to meet quality standards from commissioners and statutory bodies
  • Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement, reporting progress to the Healthcare Governance Committee
  • Lead the transformation, change, and improvement of existing services and develop new community-oriented services
  • Ensure safe management of medicines and undertake the Accountable Officer role where appropriate
  • Maintain high standards of record keeping, meeting all statutory and professional requirements
  • Ensure clinical audit activity is reported and learning is incorporated into the quality improvement group
  • Incorporate service user feedback into service development and ensure user-led services align with organisational strategy
  • Maintain strong staff engagement and support, ensuring effective rostering and out-of-hours support
  • Collaborate with fundraising, marketing, and policy/campaigns teams to support organisational strategy delivery
  • Ensure a safe working environment, maintain service user confidentiality, and undertake reasonable additional tasks as needed

About You

  • Registered Nurse
  • Educated to a master’s degree level or equivalent relevant experience
  • Relevant management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Ability to meet CQC/CI Registered Manager status requirements within a reasonable time
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Relevant post-registration experience in a healthcare organisation
  • Extensive clinical experience with demonstrable management, supervision, and leadership skills
  • Committed to improving clinical care, able to work autonomously, demonstrate initiative, possess advanced communication and organisational skills, and manage competing priorities
  • Experience working with committees and groups, and able to work across professional and organisational boundaries
  • Experience in service development and successful change management
  • Knowledge of current issues in the independent sector, organisational policy, national legislation, and key policy drivers
  • Understanding of budgets and care cost calculations
  • Experience in quality governance, including clinical audit/risk, clinical incident management, and implementing a governance framework
  • Experience managing complaints and clinical investigations using current best practices
  • Knowledge of research processes and practice, with the ability to analyse data and write reports
  • Competent IT skills and ability to use web-based tools
  • Willingness to work outside normal hours to meet deadlines and travel occasionally within the UK
  • Willingness to represent the service at fundraising events and other functions
