Purpose

You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and standards of care delivered align with the fundamental standards of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) or other relevant statutory bodies. You will manage the provision of care services within the allocated budget, adhering to agreed service specifications and defined outcome measures.

Key Relationships

  • Line management responsibility across all clinical services.
  • Supporting volunteers within the team.
  • Fostering good relationships with internal stakeholders: Service Director, direct reports, medical teams, other heads of clinical services, and the clinical quality team.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders: local CQC/Care Inspectorate inspectors, Quality Lead for Integrated Care Board (ICB), and partner organisations. Developing networks with other experts at local and national levels.

Main Responsibilities

  • Managing the budget for day-to-day care services, ensuring effective use of resources and controlling expenditure within care areas.
  • Highlighting and managing risks impacting care, experience, or safety, ensuring they are mitigated and reported.
  • Ensuring clinical services meet Care Standards Act, environmental standards, and health and safety requirements.
  • Acting as a role model within the multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating advanced knowledge, experience, and leadership skills.
  • Deputising for the Service Director when necessary, including responsibility for the Senior Management Team on call.
  • Working in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, providing forward-thinking clinical and professional leadership to nursing and care staff.
  • Leading and managing the care team to meet quality standards set by commissioners and other statutory bodies.
  • Driving a culture of continuous quality improvement, reporting centrally to the Healthcare Governance Committee.
  • Leading the transformation, change, and improvement of existing services and ways of working, and playing an active role in developing new community-oriented services.
  • Ensuring the safe management of medicines and undertaking the Accountable Officer role where appropriate.
  • Maintaining high standards of record-keeping, meeting all statutory and professional requirements for both written documentation and electronic databases.
  • Reporting clinical audit activities and incorporating learning into the quality improvement group.
  • Ensuring service users' views and needs are identified and fed back through relevant channels, and facilitating their input into developing user-led services.
  • Maintaining strong staff engagement and support through various structures, ensuring effective rostering of care staff and appropriate out-of-hours support (on call).
  • Collaborating with other areas of the organisation, including fundraising, marketing, and policy/campaigns, to support the delivery of the organisational strategy.
  • Ensuring a safe working environment, maintaining service user confidentiality, and occasionally taking on reasonable additional tasks.

About You

Experience, Skills, and Ability

  • Registered Nurse
  • Educated to a master’s degree level or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Relevant management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet the requirements of CQC/CI Registered Manager status within a reasonable time of being in post.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Relevant post-registration experience in a healthcare organisation.
  • Extensive clinical experience with demonstrable management, supervision, and leadership skills.
  • Committed to improving clinical care, able to work autonomously, demonstrate initiative, and possess advanced communication and strong organisational skills.
  • Experience working effectively with committees and groups, able to work across professional and organisational boundaries.
  • Experience in service development and successful change management.
  • Knowledge of current issues in the independent sector, organisational policy, and national legislation.
  • Understanding of care costs and calculations specific to the sector.
  • Experience in quality governance, clinical audit/risk management, and clinical incident management processes.
  • Experience in managing complaints and clinical investigations using best practice approaches.
  • Knowledge of research processes and practice, able to analyse data and write reports.
  • Competent IT skills and ability to use web-based tools.
  • Willingness to work outside normal hours and travel occasionally within the UK.
  • Representing the service outside normal working hours to generate awareness and interest, including at fundraising events.
