The salary for this permanent Lead Pharmacist job is £50,000 per annum.

Main Duties:

  • Oversee and ensure the efficient procurement of medicines, addressing supply chain issues or fluctuations with assistance from the corporate pharmacy team.
  • Drive continuous improvement and development of the pharmacy service by utilising audit outcomes and implementing quality improvement initiatives.
  • Actively participate in the local governance process by attending and contributing to Clinical Governance, Infection Prevention and Control, and Medicines Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Assist the Head of Clinical Services in fulfilling the responsibilities of the Controlled Drug Accountable Officer for the hospitals.
  • Provide education and training on medicines management to the multidisciplinary team, supporting the overall patient safety agenda.
  • Ensure compliance with medicines legislation, organisational policies, standard operating procedures, and guidelines related to medicines management.
  • Enhance patient safety by reporting, investigating, and learning from medication-related incidents, following the Patient Safety Incident Review Framework.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, including opportunities such as completing a non-medical prescribing programme.
  • Apply non-medical prescribing skills within the inpatient setting to enhance patient care.

Requirements of the Lead Pharmacist:

  • Current registration as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience (applicants with experience in community and Integrated Care Board sectors will also be considered).
  • Independent Prescriber qualification. (desriable)
  • Management qualification. (desirable)
  • Experience working as a pharmacist in a hospital setting (applicants with management experience in community, Integrated Care Board, or other primary care sectors will also be considered).
  • Proven experience in leading a team and managing a service.
  • Proficiency in using electronic stock control systems.
  • Experience in conducting audits and data analysis.
  • Hospital pharmacy experience (applicants with experience in community, Integrated Care Board, or other primary care sectors will also be considered).
  • Experience in service development and change management.
  • Experience in procurement.
  • Experience in conducting staff appraisals and supporting professional development.
