Purchasing, Distribution & Homecare Team Manager Pay Rate: £30 - £35 per hour (assignment rate)

Location: Greater London

Contract Type: Locum – 3 Months

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week

Duties:

  • Manage and appraise the Lead Pharmacy Technician Purchasing and Distribution
  • Ensure Standing Financial Instructions are met at all times and contribute to auditing
  • Ensure pharmaceuticals are readily available at all times and to ensure stock levels are monitored
  • Be responsible for ensuring new products are set up on the Pharmacy computing systems, automated dispensing robot and ward storage systems where appropriate
  • Lead the development of electronic data interchange with suppliers in conjunction with Finance
  • Maintain links with London Procurement Partnership and the Commercial Medicines unit to ensure contracts and Frameworks are utilised
  • Maintain access to the PAS portal and implement required NHS price checking
  • Ensure that specialist Pharmacists receive regular finance reports and contribute to cost savings
  • Communicate cost savings to the appropriate clinical Pharmacist and work together to initiate required changes
  • Represent the Operational team at the Pharmacy Financial information group and contribute to resolutions in identified issues
  • Manage and appraise the Lead Pharmacy Technician Homecare services
  • Contribute to the specification for a homecare service, participate in the Tender process within the timeframe agreed with all key decision makers
  • Ensure that the Royal Pharmaceutical Standards on Homecare are adhered to
  • Co-ordinate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team and to implement new homecare services within the specialist areas
  • Maintain standard operating procedures in conjunction with other appropriate staff and managers
  • Manage and monitor the Service Level Agreements with the Homecare companies
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of the pharmacy homecare database
  • Review and maintain new costs for homecare products on the pharmacy computer system
  • Ensure that invoices are processed in a timely manner and any queries are dealt with
  • Ensure compliance and contribute to national homecare medicines management guidance and policies
  • Produce reports on quality and financial indicators on the homecare medicine service
  • Be responsible for the notification of changes to patients’ treatment and validation of data for the Commissioners
  • Attend National meetings and ensure integration by appropriate representation of clinical specialist Pharmacists. International and Private Patients
  • Ensure that rotational technicians complete the training programme and adhere to the SOPs
  • Monitor and ensure accurate up-to-date costs of medicines including newly approved medicines are incorporated into the costing programme
  • Ensure medicines prices for International and Private patients are updated on a regular basis using the relevant systems and processes
  • Liaise with the International and Private Patients clinical and finance teams
  • Work in collaboration with the Dispensary Manager to ensure the provision of a safe, efficient and effective supply of medicines to patients
  • Work in conjunction with the Operational Manager to organise and participate in the annual stocktake

Requirements of the Purchasing, Distribution & Homecare Team Manager:

  • Knowledge and Understanding of diverse backgrounds and perspectives

  • Demonstrable contribution to advancing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace
  • Pharmacy Technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council 
  • Management Qualification or substantial relevant experience
  • Experience practising as a qualified Pharmacy technician in hospital or industry
  • Management or supervisory experience of support staff
  • Experience of developing and implementing procedures
  • Experience of change management
  • Experience of purchasing of medicines
  • Experience of dispensing & distribution stock control systems
  • Extensive Homecare medicines management
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational and planning skills
  • Able to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Able to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Computer skills including Power Point, Excel, Word
