Key Responsibilities
As a PACU Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality care to patients recovering from anaesthesia. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering direct patient care, managing a range of cases from routine to complex post-surgery recovery.
- Performing dependent functions as per the surgical care plan to ensure optimal patient recovery.
- Using the nursing process to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
- Acting as a patient advocate, ensuring clear communication between patients, their families, and the healthcare team.
- Leading or contributing to patient care conferences and ensuring collaborative decision-making.
- Efficiently using clinical, hospital, and community resources while maintaining safe and economical use of equipment and supplies.
- Providing leadership to nursing personnel, including assigning tasks, teaching, and directing team members as needed.
- Taking on charge nurse duties when required, ensuring smooth operations and quality care in the PACU.
- Committing to your professional growth through continuing education, staying updated with the latest in nursing practices, and participating in relevant professional organisations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Current registration with the Bermuda Nursing Council or eligibility to obtain.
- Experience: Minimum of two years of continuous employment/experience in a Post-Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
- Required: CPR, ACLS/ECG monitoring, and IV Therapy.
- Preferred: Additional certifications in advanced care settings or specific procedures relevant to PACU nursing.
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of post-operative recovery processes.
- Demonstrated competency in patient assessment and critical care nursing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster effective patient and team interactions.
