Job Summary:

Sanctuary Personnel is seeking a dedicated PBS Practitioner to join our client's Positive Behaviour Support Team. The successful candidate will work with children and adults with learning disabilities in various community-based settings. Responsibilities include conducting Functional Assessments, developing Positive Behaviour Support plans, and assisting families and staff with implementing positive behavioural interventions.

Relationships:

  • The post holder will report to the PBS Team Lead.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Working with Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities:

  • Ensure all practices adhere to the BACB Ethics code for Behaviour Analysts and/or UKSBA code of ethical and professional conduct.
  • Conduct comprehensive functional behaviour assessments, skills assessments, and preference and reinforcer assessments using principles of Applied Behavioural Analysis.
  • Design and implement behaviour analytical interventions and teaching plans to address behaviours of concern and teach functional skills.
  • Seek input from the referred individual on goal development and behaviour support planning, focusing on quality of life improvement.
  • Facilitate ongoing data collection for monitoring progress, adjusting behaviour support plans, and fading services.
  • Display all recorded data graphically to facilitate progress monitoring, reporting, and collaboration.
  • Support families and staff in understanding behavioural functions and learning necessary skills to maintain progress in the individual's environment.
  • Ensure Positive Behavioural Support Plans focus on quality of life improvements as both an intervention and outcome.
  • Attend, contribute to, and facilitate meetings related to the referred individual.
  • Write clear and comprehensive reports detailing assessments, interventions, and outcomes for the referred individual.
  • Maintain clear and ongoing clinical records detailing direct work with the referred individual, their families/support staff, and other relevant stakeholders.

Partnership Working:

  • Communicate in a manner that promotes partnership working, respecting the individual's need for information, level of understanding, background, and preferred communication style.
  • Anticipate barriers to communication and take positive action to overcome them.
  • Support individuals in a manner that reflects their wishes, preferences, and personalities.
  • Work in partnership with family members to consider their needs as supporters.
  • Collaborate with the PBS-Team Lead to identify and resolve operational difficulties.
  • Liaise with other health and social care professionals and services/organisations supporting individuals with learning disabilities to ensure effective collaborative working.

Training:

  • Develop, update, and deliver mandatory training to relevant service areas with the PBS Team Lead.
  • Provide bespoke training packages relating to Positive Behavioural Support and active support.
  • Provide training to support individuals in implementing positive behavioural interventions.
  • Offer training to family members and charitable/voluntary organisations on Positive Behavioural Support.
  • Mentor or assess staff undertaking training related to Positive Behavioural Support.
  • Attend and contribute to workshops, training courses, conferences, and meetings as required.

Service Development:

  • Identify opportunities for service development with the PBS Team Lead and other key individuals.
  • Contribute to service development initiatives related to Positive Behavioural Support and behaviour analysis.
  • Collaborate on initiatives to develop services for individuals presenting behaviours of concern.
  • Take responsibility for own continuing professional development.
  • Evaluate own knowledge and skills with the PBS Team Lead to identify development areas.
  • Provide coaching and training opportunities to help others develop their knowledge and skills.
  • Stay up to date with national best practices regarding services for people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour.

Management:

  • Promote good communication to ensure effective partnership working.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings.
  • Facilitate and keep records of service reviews against shared aims and objectives.
  • Manage the security of confidential information.
  • Review service policy and procedures related to supporting individuals presenting challenging behaviour.
  • Contribute to service audits related to supporting individuals presenting challenging behaviour.

General:

  • Knowledge of Disability and Inclusion Strategy & Children and Young People’s plan.
  • Work according to policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Safeguard the welfare and safety of service-users, colleagues, and self, in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
  • Follow appropriate moving and handling techniques while maintaining health, safety, and security of others.
  • Identify and mitigate risks involved in working practice.
  • Comply with Data Protection Law principles.
  • Report untoward occurrences, accidents, and complaints to the PBS-Team Lead.
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by management.

Key Criteria:

Essential:

  • Registration with the UK-SBA and/or BACB.
  • Master’s degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis or Positive Behavioural Support.
  • Valid driving licence.
  • Experience in assessing and intervening with children and adults with severe learning disabilities and challenging behaviour.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Empathetic and caring nature.
  • Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, SharePoint.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable:

  • Seeking BCBA Certification or UK-BA registration.
