Sanctuary Personnel are looking for a Building Control Surveyor to work on a locum basis initially for 3 Months with Somerset Council.
This role is paying £59.86 per hour and you will be required to work full-time.
About the role:
Ensure the organisation fulfils its statutory duty to enforce Building Regulations across various construction projects, including managing dangerous structures and proposed demolitions.
Must be undertaken by Registered Building Inspectors (licensed professionals) to support the organisation’s goal of fostering a safe, sustainable built environment.
Key Responsibilities of the Building Control Surveyor:
- Reviewing and examining construction plans.
- Conducting on-site inspections of ongoing work.
- Overseeing the control and regulation of demolitions and hazardous structures, in alignment with the Council’s obligations under the Building Act 1984 and other relevant legislation.Operate largely independently, using professional judgement to make complex assessments, with a focus on avoiding errors that could compromise occupant safety.
- Prepare preliminary cost estimates and procure work through tendering or framework agreements.
- Ensure value for money and evaluate preferred solutions.
- Respond to emergency callouts 24/7/365 for potentially dangerous structures:
- Provide immediate response to requests from Emergency Services.
- Assess and determine emergency safety measures to protect the public.
- Issue statutory and demolition notices as required.Ensure the service meets statutory duties related to Building Regulations enforcement, and apply relevant legislation to address dangerous structures and demolitions for public safety.
Applicant Requirement of the Building Control Surveyor:
- Degree, HNC or degree equivalent in a construction related discipline. Keep up to date with changes in technology and guidance from CLG, LACORS etc.
- Membership of a professional body such as RICS, CABE or CIOB
- 5 years Building Control experience, either with a local authority or a private organisation
- Achieved or working towards a minimum of Class 2 registration – Note any offer will be subject to this being achieved prior to April 2024.
- To be able to use professional expertise to advise senior management and elected members on relevant complex and specialist buildings. Allowing the organisation to meet statutory needs.
