Sanctuary Personnel is currently seeking a Substance Misuse Team Leader to join our client's team.

Their services cover Accommodation, Dependency and Recovery, and Personal Wellbeing.

Role Overview

As a Team Leader in their Dependency and Recovery Services, you will operate within a hybrid model, part of a flexible, multi-disciplinary team. This role involves both in-person work and travel across probation delivery units in Greenwich, Bexley, Lewisham, and Bromley. You will be based in probation offices located in Greenwich, Bexleyheath, Lewisham, and Orpington, with some virtual work. Your primary responsibilities include supporting staff and developing stakeholder relationships.

Their service aims to improve client engagement with treatment services, bridging the gap between probation and substance misuse services in the community through practical assistance and motivational interventions.

You will manage a team of practitioners delivering Dependency and Recovery Services to adult males under probation supervision, helping them implement their action plans and navigate their recovery journeys. You will work closely with probation practitioners and stakeholders, becoming fully embedded within probation offices to promote their work.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and People Management:

  • Foster strong relationships with colleagues in the Probation Delivery Unit, attending team meetings and providing substance misuse awareness training.
  • Serve as a positive role model during periods of change.
  • Support individual development needs of direct reports through regular line management and probation reviews.
  • Ensure interventions meet required standards through observed practice sessions and constructive feedback.
  • Motivate the team to meet KPIs and actively work to achieve them.
  • Manage team performance and dynamics in collaboration with HR and the Service Manager.

Service Management:

  • Oversee and ensure effective management of assigned areas.
  • Compile and share service rotas, ensuring staff presence at probation units.
  • Attend case management meetings and lead team and performance meetings.
  • Promote integrated working with partners and manage resources to meet targets and deadlines.

Quality and Safety:

  • Conduct regular service audits and develop action plans for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure data collection and reporting meets audit, research, and reporting requirements.
  • Manage risks in liaison with the Service Manager and ensure compliance with health, safety, and security protocols.

Administration:

  • Maintain case management documentation to expected audit standards.
  • Monitor data input to meet reporting requirements.
  • Compile data reports and maintain action plans and assessments.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform additional tasks as deemed appropriate by the Service Manager.
  • Occasionally attend head office for training and essential meetings.

Role Criteria

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience in managing teams, performance, and development.
  • Genuine interest and experience in motivating and developing people.
  • Strong relationship management skills both internally and externally.
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing formal procedures and policies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Project and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of issues facing service users in the criminal justice sector.
  • Experience in managing high caseloads and conducting risk assessments, SMART action plans, and effective case records.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in a 12-step primary care programme.
  • Personal experience of addiction or imprisonment (with specified recovery or release periods).
  • Experience in the criminal justice sector.
  • Knowledge of the Recovery Agenda.

Qualifications:

  • A qualification in Management at Level 3 or equivalent experience in a comparable role.
