The role:

  • As a Prevent Coordinator, you will co-ordinate and deliverthe Prevent activityacross the borough and be the primary contact for statutory partners in driving the delivery of the local authorities Prevent plan.
  • This will be achieved through effective engagement with statutory and community partners across the borough and support the implementation of associated activity and initiatives in partnership with key statutory partners and other key local services providers and community organisations.
  • This will involve working with ourpartners(as well as the community and Third sector)on initiatives that contribute to the achievement of the Prevent Plan, increasing community confidence in the Prevent agenda, and mitigating key risks and vulnerabilities identified within the Counter Terrorism Local Profile (CTLP).
  • The post will also assist statutory partners comply with meeting their obligations under the Prevent Duty and will provide effective governance support for the CONTEST Partnership.
  • You will also be the principle link with the Home Office in providing regular updates to and from them and providing formal reporting into the CONTEST boards and senior leadership briefings on Prevent activity and risks.
  • The Prevent offer within the boroughis currently transitioning into the Council’s Community Safety Partnership where you will join the wider CSP service in delivering our Prevent duty.

About You:

As a Prevent Co-ordinator you will:

  • Be Home Office / Police vetted.
  • Be politically astute and possess a strong understanding of the wider political landscape.
  • Have excellent communication and influencing skills and will be expected to represent the organisation at various internal and external meetings and engage across the region and with other boroughs and voluntary organisations.   
  • Have extensive knowledge of the Prevent agenda and CONTEST and how Local Authorities deliver against the Prevent duty.
  • Have knowledge of the issues and challenges associated with the delivery of the Governments Prevent Strategy and be able to advise and assist the council and its partners in meeting these challenges to understand and mitigate the risk of terrorism in Barking and Dagenham.
  • Be able to manage sensitive and confidential information relating to issues of current local and national security linked to the threat of terrorism.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the full range of Prevent partners, including police, health coordinators, third sector, probation and prison services and all other relevant statutory partners involved in delivering Prevent.
  • Organisational skills to manage and deliver internal or external Prevent events, conferences, exhibitions and away days.
  • Coordinate, manage, and assume responsibility for the administration and governance arrangements for the CONTEST partnership, and Channel Panel meetings on behalf of the council and statutory partners including the police.
