Duties:
- Effectively participate in the delivery of all services from the in-patient dispensary.
- Accurately label and dispense prescriptions, including controlled drugs, by standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Ensure medication is dispensed accurately and efficiently, to meet agreed delivery times and minimise waiting times for patients
- Identify potential problems regarding the unavailability of medicines for individual prescriptions, seeking advice on suitable alternatives or an agreed delivery timetable
- Be responsible for the maintenance of a specific area of the dispensary, to make sure that medicines are stored appropriately and are in-date
- Be involved in the implementation of SOPs, including relevant documentation for unlicensed medicines, ‘To-follows’, controlled drugs, etc.
- Liaise with the relevant pharmacists to ensure wards/departments have sufficient stock and maintain an efficient ‘To-follow’ system.
- Undertake stock checks, stock rotation and date checking regularly according to SOPs.
- Assist in providing and maintaining a supply of consumables for medicines dispensing.
- Processing, filing and storage of paper-based prescriptions and patient details
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings and participate in departmental quality initiatives.
- Ensure stock levels of all products are accurate and support the appropriate ordering of stock through liaison with the Buying Office. Inaccuracies in all medicines should be investigated before being referred to the line manager without delay.
Requirements of the Pharmacy Dispensing Assistant
- GPHC Registration
- Previous experience working as a Pharmacy Assistant within a UK based Pharmacy setting.
- JAC trained
- At least 1-year inpatient NHS experience
