Sanctuary Personnel, a leading recruitment company within the private and public sector has a locum role for a Band 6 Perinatal Community Mental Health Nurse to work 37.5 hours per week based in Lewisham, within the Lewisham Perinatal Mental Health Team.

The pay rate for this locum Perinatal Community Mental Health Nurse job is £30.62 per hour (Assignment rate) and is an initial 1-month contract.

Duties:

  • Work as an autonomous Perinatal Community Nurse with a defined caseload
  • Ensuring the on-going assessment of adults within the service and providing a range of needs-led interventions and care
  • Work in consultation with other professionals making known concerns regarding safeguarding children and safeguarding adults to the appropriate and responsible services
  • Aid the identification and treatment for the mental health needs of pregnant women and those with infants up to one year old
  • Work in collaboration with both colleagues from generic psychiatric services and staff from other perinatal services
  • Provide written information for all perinatal referrals received into the team to the referrers
  • Provide a consultation and liaison service for other health care professionals including those outside of the Trust who are working with women who are pregnant or have infants up to a year old
  • Build and maintain professional working relationships with others in the multi-disciplinary team, to encourage open channels of communication and actively participate in the creation of an open and safe working environment that promotes shared learning, growth and development
  • Provide clinical expertise on perinatal mental health issues within the Borough of Croydon
  • Have day to day responsibility for a defined caseload, and for the setting, monitoring and maintaining of high standards of care including the CPA guidelines
  • Work in consultation with other professionals making known concerns regarding safeguarding children and safeguarding adults to the appropriate and responsible services
  • Determine the type of care/treatment level as appropriate for the individuals referred including referring onto other agencies/professionals
  • Ensure that assessments and pathways of care are kept up to date and that discharge planning and review meetings are carried out to a high standard
  • Provide independent written assessments to primary health care professionals focusing on a formulation for treatment options
  • Provide clinical expertise and advice in identifying women at high risk of mental illness in the perinatal period, and pathways into appropriate care
  • Facilitate and promote evidence based practice for the patient group and participate and utilise research for this purpose
  • Work with key professionals to identify areas of need for the development of the service within the Croydon Team, including establishing agreed priorities for service provision, i.e. updating health visitors and midwifery training in line with current recommendations
  • Audit the service as appropriate and participate in service policy and development at strategic level in conjunction with colleagues from other slam boroughs, to be responsible for policy and decision making within this service and be involved in regular meetings as planned
  • Be actively involved, participating in research, evaluation, in the development and implementation of quality initiatives. Assist in improving access to services to clients from ethnic minority groups

Requirements of the Perinatal Community Mental Health Nurse:

  • RMN with current NMC registration and revalidation
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
  • Post-registration experience
  • Experience of working in an Inpatient or community setting
  • Experience of working with Patients with severe and enduring mental health problems
  • Understanding of Maternal Mental illness
  • Experience of working with patients when acutely ill
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Understanding of Care Co-ordination under CPA
  • Skills in clinical assessment / baseline mental health assessment
  • Skills in risk assessment, risk management and crisis management
  • Knowledge and awareness of Safeguarding children policies, Local and National
  • Proven experience of safeguarding children and communicating with children and families social services
  • Knowledge of Relevant legislation including MHA, Children Act 1989, Carers Act
  • Ability to work in a Team
  • Ability to reflect on practice
