Primary Care Mental Health Counsellor Pay Rate: £27.04 per hour (assignment rate)

Location: Dudley

Contract Type: Locum, 3-months

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week

Duties:

  • Provide a counselling service to a designated patient population
  • Assess clients and provide appropriate clinical therapeutic interventions for own workload and maintain associated records
  • Perform in accordance with BACP Ethics and Guidelines and NHS local policy
  • Utilise specialist knowledge of psychological frameworks and application of theories based on degree, post graduate training and experience
  • Liaise with GP’s and other primary care staff and other teams and agencies attending Integrated care team meetings when required
  • Clinically supervise trainees, other health professionals and colleagues
  • Participate in Continuing Professional Development and other developmental activities
  • Undertake Research & Development activities

Requirements of the Primary Care Mental Health Counsellor:

  • Recognised counselling qualification (level 5 or above with significant relevant post qualification experience), specifically psychodynamic, person centred and / or integrative
  • Currently be an accredited practitioner or working towards completion of accreditation with a professional body i.e. BACP, HPC, UKCP
  • Supervisory qualification/ willing to undertake training
  • Training in risk assessment/willing to undertake
  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD)
  • Be aware of, and comply with, the policies, procedures and service standard
  • Experience of working within Primary Care
  • Experience of working post Qualification in a GP/NHS mental health setting
  • Evidence of ongoing training and development
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessment/Risk Management
  • Ability to identify common mental health conditions as determined by ICD10
  • Experience of developing therapeutic groups
  • Experience of delivering therapeutic groups
  • Knowledge of appropriate agencies for client referral
  • Knowledge of current professional issues
  • Experience of audit and research and presentation of findings
  • Specialist experience and expertise
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability to work within a time limit
  • Ability to make use of clinical supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality appropriate to the setting
  • Competency in working within a variety of recognised frameworks and outcome measures
  • Ability to liaise and work with colleagues from other disciplines
  • Skills in assessing and formulating individual intervention plans and outcome measures for adults with mental health problems
  • Knowledge of NHS issues and current policies and practices in mental health
  • Knowledge of Psychotropic medications
