Sanctuary Personnel is currently seeking a Band 7 Neuro Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join our client's dynamic team. 

Job Purpose

To deliver direct psychological services to clients, performing assessments of their needs and abilities to design and monitor suitable programmes and strategies. To support staff involved in the cognitive, physical, communication, functional, social, and emotional rehabilitation of adults with acquired brain injury.

Role Responsbilities

  • Provide direct psychological services to clients, including a wide range of assessment procedures.
  • Offer therapeutic support through group work and individual sessions.
  • Prepare detailed professional reports on client assessments and progress, with recommendations for future provision.
  • Supervise and direct the clinical work of junior staff and psychology students within the department.
  • Train and advise colleagues on the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural implications of acquired brain injury, and develop strategies to facilitate learning and behaviour management.
  • Initiate and participate in formal research projects, with publication as appropriate.
  • Conduct analyses of psychological and clinical outcomes.
  • Support the Psychology team and members of the multi-disciplinary team as needed.
  • Advise the Head of Clinical Services on the suitability of prospective clients.
  • Represent the Service at required clinical and non-clinical meetings, delivering presentations and participating in training sessions.
  • Stay updated on developments in the field of brain injury rehabilitation.
  • Assist the team and families in planning discharges, considering psychological and cognitive needs.
  • Assess and manage mental capacity and risk issues in collaboration with the Lead Psychologist and wider MDT.
  • Support the team in managing the emotional impact of caring for clients with significant cognitive, communication, and/or physical difficulties.

Qualifications & Training

Essential:

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
  • Up-to-date HCPC registration (or for newly qualified clinical psychologists, registration upon course completion).

Desirable:

  • Professional qualifications and experience in Neuropsychology, counselling, psychotherapy, or behaviour management.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage workload independently and work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Competence in using and interpreting specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment materials.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups.
  • In-depth knowledge of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
  • Understanding of current theoretical models and skills in working with challenging behaviours.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design, and complex data analysis in clinical psychology.
  • Ability to address and understand high levels of distress directly with patients and indirectly through staff consultation.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development as recommended by the BPS.
  • Knowledge of specialised psychological therapies for individuals with acquired brain injury.
  • Familiarity with legislation related to the client group.
  • Reflective practice regarding issues of difference and diversity in clinical decision-making.
  • Knowledge of cognitive rehabilitation models.
  • Understanding of health psychology theories and their application to neuropsychological settings.

Experience

  • Experience working with people with cognitive impairments.
  • Expertise in using neuropsychological assessment to inform care planning.
  • Experience with clients whose behaviour challenges.
  • Background in neuro-rehab or community-based neuro settings for individuals with acquired brain injury.
  • Experience assessing and supporting mental capacity.
  • Experience working in residential settings and with staff teams.
  • Experience working with families.
  • Facilitation of psycho-education or psychological therapy groups.
  • Delivery of mindfulness-based interventions.
  • Supervision of assistant psychologists.

  • Experience working within a multicultural framework.
