Sanctuary Personnel is currently seeking a Maths Tutor to join our client's dynamic team. 

Shift Pattern: 

  • 36 hours per week over 52 weeks
  • 08:30 am - 17:00 pm, Monday - Thursday, 08:30 am - 12:30 pm, Friday
  • 26 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays + Christmas centre shutdown

Purpose of the Job:

  • To teach a mixture of GCSE and Functional Skills Math sessions to students as agreed with the Quality of Education Manager.
  • To contribute to curriculum development in your subject.
  • To be responsible for the Quality Assurance of your teaching and/or other duties.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To plan, prepare, deliver, and evaluate a course(s) of learning for learners as set out in the contract of employment to the agreed number of hours and weeks.
  • To provide detailed syllabus/course outline information and an initial scheme of work for each course before commencement and update/maintain them as part of the course documentation files.
  • To prepare appropriate plans and learning materials for each session, make them available in advance for monitoring or lesson observation visits, and maintain them as part of the course documentation files.
  • To give subject specialist information, advice, and support to learners as part of teaching duties, including providing learners with advice on progression, either within the organisation or at another establishment.
  • Deliver Information, Advice and Guidance to learners within the teaching class, give further support where needed, and record on the pastoral log.
  • To monitor, mark, and assess learners’ work, in line with the marking policy, and progress and maintain such records as appropriate. To prepare learners for exams and accreditation and aim to return work within 10 days as appropriate.
  • To mark the register accurately at the start of each session and use the register in the event of a fire or other emergency.
  • To monitor and evaluate courses and provide feedback to the Centre Head and/or Curriculum Managers as requested, thus taking responsibility for the quality of your teaching.
  • To ensure that all equipment and facilities are used appropriately and safely.
  • To ensure that the post holder pays due regard to and fully supports the organisation’s policies, including Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, etc., and carries out the duties required.
  • To ensure continuing professional/curriculum development and to participate in training where appropriate, keeping up to date with your own subject(s) as well as national and local developments in learning.
  • To support with invigilation for other subject areas and take part in invigilation training.
  • To carry out other such duties as may be required from time to time by Management.

Person Specification:

  • In-depth knowledge and substantial experience in the subject area as specified in the job description.
  • Teaching qualification appropriate for working in the Post-16 Sector, and/or willingness to undergo further training.
  • Experience of teaching/training or working with students aged 16+.
  • An understanding of the principles underpinning teaching post-16, i.e., planning, delivery, assessment, and evaluation of learning.
  • An awareness of different learning strategies and teaching methods suitable for teaching a diverse range of abilities.
  • Ideally qualified to A level / Level 3 qualification in Maths.
  • Effective oral and written communication, numeracy, and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with staff and learners alike (to at least Level 2 and/or willingness to acquire appropriate equivalent qualification).
  • A commitment and ability to comply with Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety policies, etc.
