Sanctuary Personnel are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Needs Teaching Assistant to join a school’s based in Southampton.

This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children with a range of learning, physical, or emotional needs, ensuring they receive the support and care required to succeed academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with a range of special educational needs, including learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and emotional or behavioural challenges.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement tailored learning plans and strategies.
  • Provide one-to-one support or small group assistance to pupils, ensuring their individual needs are met.
  • Assist with personal care or medical needs where necessary.
  • Help create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Monitor and report on the progress and behaviour of pupils to the teacher and SENCO.
  • Foster strong relationships with pupils, encouraging their independence and self-esteem.
  • Assist with classroom activities, including setting up resources and supporting other pupils as needed.

Person Specification:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, ideally in a school or educational setting.
  • A patient, caring, and empathetic nature.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of individual pupils.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Qualifications:

  • GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent) are essential.
  • A relevant qualification in Special Education Needs or Teaching Assistance is desirable but not essential.
  • First aid training is advantageous.
  • An enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful applicant.
