Pay Rate: £29.19 - £37.82  per hour

Hours: Locum 3 month contract. Part-time, 12 - 20 hours per week including 2 evenings per week.

Main Duties of the Functional Skills Tutor:

  • Teaching Duties:

    • Conduct initial assessments of learners to identify individual learning needs.
    • Agree on and complete individual learning plans with learners.
    • Ensure learners' progress and achievements are recognized and recorded.
    • Provide progression, retention, and achievement information to the Curriculum Team Leader/Manager.
  • Planning and Preparation:

    • Prepare course outlines, schemes of work, and lesson plans.
    • Maintain appropriate and up-to-date course files.
    • Identify necessary materials and equipment to support teaching and learning.
    • Produce suitable flexible learning materials.
    • Undertake course reviews.
  • Class Management:

    • Ensure complete, accurate, and up-to-date class registers.
    • Handle the withdrawal and transfer of learners in liaison with the Curriculum Team Leader/Manager.
    • Maintain high levels of retention and achievement, supporting learners' progression.
    • Monitor learners’ attendance and punctuality, taking appropriate actions as needed.
  • Assessment and Accreditation:

    • Collaborate with the Curriculum Team Leader/Manager and other staff for course accreditation and the effective organization of examinations and assessments.
    • Assess and record learner outcomes, including completing exam entry forms.
  • Compliance and Safety:

    • Adhere to Equality and safeguarding requirements, including all Health & Safety regulations.
    • Be familiar with procedures for fire and risk assessment in the learning environment.

Requirements of the Functional Skills Tutors:

  • A teaching qualification suitable for teaching adults (City and Guilds Stage 1, PTTLS, or equivalent).
  • If not already qualified, willingness to obtain the appropriate teaching qualification within the first year of service.
  • At least 1 year of post-graduate experience as a Teacher/Tutor in the UK.
  • Proof of ability to work and reside in the UK.
  • Current DBS check and two references.
