Job Title: Dementia Occupational Therapist

Salary: £29,000 - £33,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Sanctuary Personnel are seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our client's dementia care unit, where you will provide expert occupational therapy services in a specialised setting. You will manage your own caseload, prioritising patient needs, and offer guidance on occupational therapy to other disciplines as necessary. Participation in departmental research may also be a part of this role.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct occupational therapy assessments to address performance and skill deficits, supporting patients in self-maintenance, productivity, and leisure.
- Work collaboratively with patients to set and achieve occupational therapy goals as part of their overall care plan, implementing individual and/or group interventions using graded activity.
- Monitor and evaluate treatment effectiveness in close cooperation with patients and colleagues.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Share and receive complex and sensitive information about patients’ histories with peers and patients.
- Recommend and instruct on the use of special equipment, such as wheelchairs and sensory aids.
- Adopt a holistic approach, considering physical, social, psychological, and environmental needs.
- Plan and organise straightforward activities and develop detailed treatment plans with specific goals.
- Adhere to departmental, hospital, and organisational policies and current mental health legislation.
- Ensure safe use of equipment and supervise OT assistants, students, and support workers as necessary.
- Communicate any concerns or changes in patient care to the appropriate clinical team member.
- Participate in clinical audits and testing of different aids as required.
- Operate autonomously within professional codes of practice and guidelines.
Support Responsibilities:
- Regularly test equipment and maintain accurate records.
- Engage in clinical audits, programme reviews, and analysis of outcome measures.
- Undertake other duties within the job’s scope and purpose as directed by management.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Manage patient and budgetary records for your caseload.
- Maintain stock control and order supplies as needed.
- Write reports and care plans, and attend multidisciplinary meetings to plan and review treatment.
Skills & Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a degree or equivalent qualification and a solid understanding of UK mental health laws. Proficiency in manual skills, interpersonal communication, teamwork, adaptability, decision-making, and report writing is essential. Familiarity with mental health practice models and the ability to engage effectively with patients is required, along with a strong interest or experience in dementia care or a related specialisation.
