Sanctuary Personnel is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our client's well-established service in CAMHS Eating Disorders. This role is based in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, and involves working with a highly talented and close multidisciplinary team to support young people in their recovery from eating disorders.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a service with a national and international reputation, currently providing 34 inpatient beds, as well as daycare and outpatient services.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the ongoing development of the service, offering clinical expertise in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. You will work alongside and be supported by an experienced Associate Specialist, taking responsibility for the psychiatric and medical management of patients, including those detained under the Mental Health Act.

Principal Duties:

  • Conduct medical assessments of patients
  • Perform psychiatric assessments, including for eating disorder and non-eating disorder psychopathology
  • Formulate complex cases with medical and psychiatric needs
  • Undertake risk assessment and management for both medical and psychiatric components of disorders
  • Lead the monitoring and treatment of physical complications of eating disorders in collaboration with other healthcare professionals (nurses, dieticians, physicians, paediatricians, general practitioners, etc.)
  • Attend clinical MDT meetings and participate in MDT discussions around high-risk patients
  • Participate in multidisciplinary discussions to determine the most appropriate treatment settings for patients
  • Implement guidelines
  • Treat and monitor psychiatric aspects of eating disorders, including core psychopathology and psychiatric co-morbidities such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, borderline personality disorder, and autistic spectrum disorders
  • Prescribe and appropriately monitor medications (according to relevant NICE guidelines)
  • Use the Mental Health Act as appropriate in the management of eating disorders and general psychiatry
  • Actively promote the key values of the service, including evidence-based treatment, collaborative multidisciplinary teamwork, coordinated care with other services, and efficient risk management
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational colleagues to oversee the team's overall clinical performance
  • Work closely with clinical and managerial leaders to improve and develop services

Skills & Requirements:

You must have specialist registration with the General Medical Council and a license to practice, along with the following:

Essential:

  • On Specialist Register or within 6 months of the expected CCT date
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Meets Royal College of Psychiatrists criteria for appointment to the post of Consultant
  • Approved Clinician status or willingness to achieve this
  • Knowledge of the physical complications of eating disorders and their management

Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of experience in eating disorders as a higher trainee or equivalent
  • Experience in the psychological and pharmacological management of eating disorders and co-morbid conditions
  • Experience in the management of re-feeding in severely underweight patients
  • Experience with a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches used in the treatment of eating disorders
