Sanctuary Personnel is excited to present an exceptional opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our client's prestigious healthcare team in York.

Role Overview:

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be medically responsible for all inpatients and act as the Responsible Clinician for all detained inpatients under the Mental Health Act 1983. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, participating in weekly meetings to make key decisions regarding patient care and treatment. Additionally, you will mentor and train the Specialty Doctor under your clinical supervision, ensuring all duties are completed by a suitably qualified doctor or by you in their absence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the service's growth by managing a caseload of day care and outpatient patients.
  • Participate in the on-call rota (1:4) and provide additional support when the Specialty Doctor is first medical cover.
  • Formulate initial care plans with the team on admission and complete the Agreement to Treatment form.
  • Conduct initial mental state and physical examinations for new admissions.
  • Develop individual formulations for each patient with the team.
  • Set initial observation levels and care plans before the first MDT meeting.
  • Medically examine each patient according to the unit's physical assessment protocol.
  • Assess, treat, and monitor psychiatric aspects of eating disorders, including co-morbid conditions such as depression, OCD, personality disorder, and ASD.
  • Lead on the physical health of patients, arranging investigations and referrals as necessary.
  • Manage physical complications of eating disorders.
  • Regularly review and adjust individual treatment plans with the MDT.
  • Conduct weekly risk assessments with the MDT.
  • Prescribe and monitor medication in line with relevant guidelines.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Specialist registration with the General Medical Council and a license to practice
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Approved Clinician status or willingness to achieve this
  • Registration for CPD with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and in good standing
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology and physical/nutritional complications of eating disorders
  • High degree of self-awareness and ability to reflect on emotional responses to patients
  • Willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Minimum of one year's experience with eating disorders at a higher trainee level or equivalent
  • Experience with various psychotherapeutic approaches for eating disorders
  • Experience in managing refeeding in severely underweight patients
