The salary for this permanent Speech and Language Therapist  job is £43,742 - £56,056 per annum.

Main Duties:

Reporting to the Head of Clinical Services, you will be accountable for the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) provision to all clients within our rehabilitation centre.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a specialist SLT team in a state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre. This team includes band 6 and band 5 SLTs, an SLT assistant, and students.
  • Service Development: Contribute to the ongoing development of a high-quality SLT therapeutic service.
  • Specialist Assessment and Intervention: Provide specialist dysphagia and communication assessments and interventions to clients with acquired brain injuries, such as stroke, ABI, and other neurological conditions, utilizing competencies and experience at a senior practitioner level.
  • Session Delivery: Deliver 1:1 and group SLT sessions to a range of clients and create accessible communication and swallowing guidance for the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT).
  • Mental Capacity Assessments: Conduct skilled mental capacity assessments independently or jointly with other professionals, as appropriate.
  • Key-Worker Role: Manage and oversee a specific client’s entire journey at QEF, liaise with families, serve as the single point of contact for all queries, and coordinate care and discharge packages.
  • Client Advocacy: Advocate on clients’ behalf in various situations, including writing reports, completing CHC forms, and participating in complex DST meetings.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with the wider MDT, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, dietitians, nursing staff, carers, kitchen staff, and activity coordinators. Collaborate with outside agencies such as social workers, safeguarding teams, expert witnesses, lawyers, neuro-navigators, and DST assessors.
  • Service Improvement: Work with the Head of Clinical Services and senior management on service development, quality improvement projects, and clinical audits.
  • Supervision and Training: Provide clinical supervision and expert advice to SLT staff and SLT students on placement.
  • Recruitment: Oversee recruitment within the SLT department and support the recruitment process for the wider CRC staffing remit.
  • Team Management: Manage the Speech and Language Therapy team, including handling sickness absence, performance appraisals, and probationary periods in line with QEF policy.
  • Learning and Reflective Practice: Support and lead the emphasis on learning and reflective practice within the SLT and wider team, providing and participating in training and learning.
  • Catering Collaboration: Work actively with our catering company, manager, and dietitian to provide high standards of catering in line with the IDDSI framework.

Requirements of the Speech and Language Therapist:

  • Degree in Speech & Language Therapy
  • Additional training in Dysphagia
  • Ongoing CPD record relevant to TBI
  • Ongoing membership with the RCSLT
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Further training/qualification relevant to Neuro-rehabilitation
  • Experience working with neurologically impaired adults
  • Experience in management, at least at a team/middle management level
  • Experience working with carers
