Purpose of the role:

  • Provide leadership and management oversight of the service which relates to resources, quality assurance, policy and practice and management of performance information and service support staff. Deliver effective support across the wider service encompassing the Engagement Service. Equality, diversity, and inclusion best practice will be integral to the range of responsibilities.

Main duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support staff based within the YJS and to ensure the work of teams is carried out in accordance with legal requirements, YJS policies, National Standards and good professional practice.
  • Review, revise, update and produce policies and procedures ensuring that the wider YJS is meeting expectations and requirements and that clear working protocols are in place both internally and with partner agencies.
  • Embed a quality assurance framework that triangulates evidence across audits, complaints and feedback from children and families effectively.
  • Embed a relational approach in the design and delivery of audits, including peer audits, in accordance with YJS and Children’s Services Assurance Framework. Design themed and general audit tools to ensure that practice standards are met, good practice is highlighted and areas for improvement identified.
  • Embed learning from audits effectively to achieve practice improvements.
  • Work with the management team to investigate and resolve complaints and ensure recommendations are actioned, and learning is shared with the service.
  • Contribute to the workforce development strategy, raising practice standards.

 

Requirements of the Practice Lead:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Significant frontline experience in Children’s Services
  • A sound working knowledge of the legislation & National Standards governing the work of the Youth Justice Service
  • Experience of delivering quality assurance in accordance with national and local policies and procedures, the law & regulatory/statutory guidance to inform practice decisions.
