Pay Rate: £44.50 per hour (assignment rate)

Contract: Locum, 3-Months

Hours: Full-time. 36 hours per week. The postholder may be required to work evenings, weekends, and occasional public holidays, to meet service requirements.

Duties:

  • Contribute to the effective delivery of a Front Door service ensuring timely, responsive, and effective decision making to support and safeguard children, young people, parents, and carers
  • Ensure that all enquiries and referrals from professionals and members of the public receive a timely decision and that feedback is provided on all contacts
  • Support the MASH transformation working alongside social workers, managers, and partners in embedding new approaches to MASH process and practice to ensure a timely, consistent, and high-quality service to the residents of Croydon
  • Process all enquiries, referrals, and service / information requests accurately and promptly highlight any urgent matters to the MASH Team Manager accordingly
  • Ensure the effective implementation and use of the Children’s Portal ensuring that the quality of information provided supports high quality referrals
  • Support the training of partners alongside colleagues in the MASH to enhance learning and support the continuous improvement of the MASH
  • Respond politely, efficiently, and sympathetically to enquiries from professional organisations, e.g., Health, Police, Education, Probation, and the Courts and from members of the public
  • Actively listen to assess and clarify the needs of the enquirer
  • Handle difficult or sensitive enquiries effectively using listening and rapport building skills
  • Undertake follow-up action liaising with departmental, council, and external colleagues, as necessary
  • Deal with difficult conversations and communicating effectively with enquirers who have varying needs and requirements
  • Undertake clerical, administrative and ICT data loading duties within the office including maintenance of files and records, sorting, and distributing mail, filing, record keeping, answering telephone calls, maintaining office supplies, and providing general office support
  • Record requests for resources and information relating to external agencies and other council services ensuring service users receive all relevant information
  • Maintain a range of information and forms for use by service users and the service
  • Collect and collate information needed for monitoring the effectiveness of the service

Requirements of the Contract & Referral Officer:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding, Children’s Social Care and Early Help including Continuum of need
  • Good understanding of the need to safeguard confidential information, to respect the privacy of families and colleagues
  • Appreciation and understanding of Cultural diversity
  • Knowledge of ICT systems and processes
  • Ability to use a range of databases, including EHM & CRS and with any training needed, to input information with a high degree of accuracy
  • Demonstrate accurate and speedy computer data inputting skills
  • Ability to communicate information accurately and clearly – both to members of the public and professionals and colleagues within MASH
  • Ability to identify and communicate safeguarding concerns urgently with relevant social worker / manager
  • Ability to work positively with families, professionals, and colleagues from a range of agencies
  • Ability to work in a customer focused manner
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • High levels of self-organisation skills and ability to manage own workload, prioritise work and meet performance targets in a fast paced and focused environment
  • Ability and willingness to work across teams when instructed and follow management direction
  • Willingness to undertake on-going Continued Professional Development and participate in supervision and team / service meetings
  • Experience of working in a role where children’s social care or family support / early help is an element
  • Experience of administrative / clerical work and understanding of office procedures within a busy and sensitive public environment
  • Experience of dealing with the public
  • Experience of navigating and adding to ICT Systems
