What you will do:
- Draw blood from patients for lab testing, donations, or research accurately and efficiently.
- Verify patient identity and information to ensure accurate blood collection.
- Label and document collected blood samples with precision and care.
- Maintain sterile procedures, following infection control protocols to the letter.
- Prepare and keep all phlebotomy equipment in perfect condition, ensuring everything from needles to vials is ready for use.
- Offer reassurance to patients, especially those who are nervous, keeping them calm and informed throughout the procedure.
- Perform venipuncture, fingerstick, or heelstick procedures with competence and professionalism.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of samples to labs for analysis.
- Follow specific instructions involving patient preparation, such as fasting requirements, to ensure the accuracy of results.
- Educate patients on post-procedure care, ensuring they know how to manage pressure application or bandaging.
- Monitor patients for any adverse reactions during or after the procedure, providing immediate assistance if needed.
- Adhere to all legal and regulatory requirements for blood collection, ensuring full compliance and quality care.
- Keep accurate records, maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive patient information at all times.
- Keep work areas and equipment clean and disinfected, promoting a safe and hygienic environment.
- Manage inventory of supplies, ensuring everything needed for blood collection is readily available.
