Pay Rate: £25 per hour (assignment rate)

Contract: Locum, 3-Months

Shift Pattern: 36 hours per week. This role will involve working on some evenings and supporting young people in adverse conditions, such as prisons, and detention centres.

Duties:

  • Work with young people from aged 16 and their networks, including carers and social workers to ensure that areas of need are identified and actions taken to meet those needs
  • Build and maintain rapport and good communication with young people and their networks and assist young people to develop and maintain their own networks of support
  • Acting as a positive role model and working with young people in a Systemic way, using the Strengthening Families framework
  • Through the needs assessment and review process, develop, implement and review Pathway Plans
  • Undertaking direct work with the young person to achieve the desired outcomes in the Pathway Plan, and using best-practice and evidence-based models to do this
  • The provision of advice and guidance on the range of issues covered in the Plan
  • Participate in the Duty Service delivering front facing support, in cases of emergency or high need
  • Participate in statutory court and tribunal processes, including writing statements and giving evidence
  • In conjunction with young people and their personal and professional networks, identify and monitor risks and vulnerabilities and devise and contribute to risk and vulnerability management plans
  • Undertake direct work with young people who have complex and multiple needs, including criminal offending, behaviour which may put themselves or others at risk of harm, exploitation, mental health difficulties, and impact of trauma or neglect
  • Where young people are parents, work alongside them to ensure they can meet the needs of their children, including signposting and supporting them to access universal and early help services
  • Be an active part of the safeguarding network including reporting any concerns of harm or risk of harm to statutory partners
  • Ensure work is timely and effective to meet young people’s needs and in line with statutory duties and timescales
  • Ensure all work is recorded on the case recording system
  • Support and promote young people’s engagement in education training or employment, and take action to prevent young people becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training)
  • Support young people to live in and sustain suitable accommodation, including liaison with housing partners and housing providers
  • Provide practical assistance such as setting up home support
  • Working with the young person and partners to prevent homelessness
  • Support young people with their finances including ensuring they develop skills in budgeting
  • Liaise with other agencies such as Department for Work and Pensions, council income maximisation services
  • Ensuring both individual and teamwork meets the Green Commitment Policy goals in reducing energy consumption and waste, increasing renewable energy use and recycling, contributing to a reduction in traffic congestion and using sustainable materials
  • Maintaining customer records and archive systems in accordance with departmental procedures and policies as well as statutory requirements
  • Treating all information acquired through employment, both formally and informally, in confidence
  • Being responsible for own Health & Safety, as well as that of colleagues, service users and the public
  • Championing the professional integrity of the service

Requirements of the Personal Advisor:

  • Being aware of the responsibilities under the Data Protection Act 1998 for the security, accuracy and relevance of personal data held, ensuring that all administrative and financial processes also comply
  • Good basic standards of literacy and numeracy
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, research, practice models and policy developments
  • Knowledge of human development theory, in particular adolescent development and the issues experienced by young people including those who are looked after or are care leavers
  • Knowledge of different methods of providing effective support preferably within a social care setting
  • Knowledge of effective safeguarding and risk management practice in relation to vulnerable adults and children
  • Working knowledge of data protection regulation and confidentiality principles
  • Relevant qualification in working with children young people or young adults
  • Able to build rapport, engage and develop relationships with young people and their families, (including with young people who may be harder to reach or those from diverse backgrounds) in order to achieve sustainable positive outcomes
  • Able to learn and apply models of effective practice and committed to ongoing professional development to inform sound professional judgements
  • Able to engage and develop effective relationships with other professionals and organisations, including effective joint working
  • Able to identify, assess and determine individual plans based on strengths including a focus on safeguarding and managing risk
  • Able to re-prioritise and be flexible
  • Able to develop and deliver targeted interventions that promote independence and reduce vulnerability for care leavers
  • Able to communicate to a high standard verbally and in writing and to produce and present high quality reports
  • Confident in managing complex and potentially conflictual situations and using restorative and solution focussed approaches
  • Able to use ICT, ability and confidence to learn new systems and proficient using client recording systems, Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Experience of working with young people in a statutory or non-statutory setting
  • Considerable experience coordinating work with individuals in a case-holding or key working capacity
  • Experience of helping young people to achieve positive outcomes in their lives through relationship based work, agreeing and implementing plans
