Job Summary:

Sanctuary Personnel are seeking a Senior Nurse Practitioner to provide nursing leadership within our client's Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, focusing on the management of clients with eating disorders. The role involves ensuring safe practice in accordance with the Care Quality Framework and organisational policies.

Responsibilities:

Patient/Service User Care:

  • Deliver high standards of care based on best practices, ensuring patient/service user safety.
  • Coordinate the assessment and care of patients/service users with complex needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate specialised care programmes.
  • Lead a team and provide specialist advice in acute and chronic situations.
  • Ensure patient/service user involvement in care planning, respecting their beliefs and dignity.
  • Utilise data to guide decision-making and request clinical tests as appropriate.
  • Act as a health promoter and educator.
  • Uphold professional standards and manage incidents as per policy.
  • Ensure safeguards are in place for patient/service user safety, escalating concerns appropriately.

Communication:

  • Build therapeutic relationships with patients/service users and their support networks.
  • Use and promote effective communication skills for complex situations.
  • Manage conflicts among staff, patients/service users, and their support networks.
  • Promote effective working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team and outside agencies.
  • Maintain clear, concise, and accurate records of care given.

Leadership:

  • Act as a professional role model, advocating for patients and promoting high standards of practice.
  • Lead the department or service, coordinating nurse-led and multi-agency activities.
  • Investigate complaints and clinical incidents, sharing learning outcomes.
  • Ensure team members are aware of organisational objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct Values Based Appraisals and support staff development.
  • Lead the recruitment of team members and maintain a positive working environment.
  • Reflect on and take accountability for own decisions and actions.

Planning and Organisation:

  • Organise own workload and that of others, adjusting plans as priorities change.
  • Lead shift planning and staff allocation to ensure safe levels of care.
  • Coordinate and delegate activities considering skill mix and staffing levels.

Policy and Service Development:

  • Lead and contribute to service developments and propose changes to policies and procedures.
  • Support senior management in initiating and implementing improvements.
  • Ensure staff compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Partnership Working:

  • Apply the principles of the CARE Values and promote collaborative working within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Lead effective team working and constructive communication.
  • Create an environment for partnership working and information dissemination.
  • Lead and participate in team meetings.

Responsibility for Physical and Financial Resources:

  • Ensure responsible and appropriate use of public funds.
  • Authorise expenditure and manage resources within the service area.
  • Report any deviations from the budget to the senior manager.
  • Ensure the safe use of equipment and proper handling of valuables.

Professional Development:

  • Maintain own and others’ professional development and revalidation requirements.
  • Lead supervisory meetings and Values Based Appraisals.
  • Continually develop new knowledge and skills, sharing with colleagues.
  • Develop and deliver learning programmes for staff.
  • Provide a learning environment and supervise pre- and post-registration students.

Research, Development, and Audit:

  • Lead the use of data from clinical incidents for service development and audit activities.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient and service user safety and care.
  • Stay updated with evidence-based practice and current trends.

Analysis and Data Management:

  • Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators within the service area.
  • Use data sources to investigate incidents and contribute to service development.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse

Key Criteria:

  • Demonstrated leadership and change management skills.
  • Evidence of quality improvement methodology.
  • Effective workload management and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage resources efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills in complex situations.
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff.
  • Flexible and adaptable to service needs.
  • Experience in CAMHS and working with eating disorders.
  • Experience in teaching and supervision.

Desirable:

  • Crisis management experience.
  • Knowledge of research design and methodology.
  • Training in treatment modalities such as CBT, DBT, Systemic Therapy, EMDR.
