Job Summary:

Sanctuary Personnel is seeking a Senior Nurse Practitioner to provide highly specialised nursing care within our client's Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Guernsey. This role focuses on a multidisciplinary team approach to managing clients with neuro-developmental disorders. The successful candidate will foster strong relationships with various agencies involved in the care of young people and will monitor treatment pathways to ensure integrated care delivery.

Responsibilities:

Patient/Service User Care:

  • Deliver high standards of care based on best practice to maintain patient safety and quality.
  • Coordinate the assessment of patients with complex needs, including those with unconfirmed diagnoses.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate specialised care programmes using evidence and research.
  • Lead a team in acute and chronic situations, ensuring patient and support network needs are met.
  • Involve patients in care planning, respecting their beliefs and dignity.
  • Utilise data to guide decision-making regarding patient conditions.
  • Request specific clinical tests within the scope of expertise and policy.
  • Act as a health promoter and educator for patients and their support networks.
  • Uphold professional standards within the team.
  • Manage incidents and participate in risk management and quality processes.
  • Ensure safeguards are in place for patients and escalate any safety concerns appropriately.

Communication:

  • Build therapeutic relationships with patients and their support networks, respecting their views and cultural differences.
  • Promote and use a wide range of communication skills to meet complex needs.
  • Manage conflicts among staff, patients, and support networks.
  • Establish effective working relationships with the multidisciplinary team and external agencies.
  • Communicate compassionately and professionally with patients and their support networks.
  • Maintain clear and accurate electronic and paper records of care.

Leadership:

  • Act as a professional role model, advocating for patients and promoting high standards of practice.
  • Lead the department or service effectively.
  • Coordinate nurse-led and multi-agency activities.
  • Investigate complaints and clinical incidents, sharing learning with the team.
  • Promote team success and excellent standards of care.
  • Ensure team awareness of organisational objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct values-based appraisals and support staff with performance issues.
  • Lead recruitment efforts and foster a positive working environment.
  • Advocate on behalf of patients and service users.
  • Reflect on decisions and actions, utilising support networks.

Planning and Organisation:

  • Organise own and others' workloads, recognising and adjusting priorities as needed.
  • Lead shift planning and work scheduling, ensuring appropriate staff allocation.
  • Delegate activities within agreed systems of working, considering skill mix and staffing levels.

Policy and Service Development:

  • Lead and contribute to service developments and propose policy changes.
  • Support senior management in implementing improvements.
  • Ensure staff adherence to relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Partnership Working:

  • Understand and apply CARE Values principles.
  • Promote collaborative working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Lead effective team working, encouraging suggestions for care improvement.
  • Facilitate partnership working and information dissemination.

  • Use clinical data to inform audit activities and service development.

  • Stay informed on evidence-based practice and trends.

Analysis and Data Management:

  • Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators for service development.
  • Use data sources to investigate incidents.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Extensive experience in working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders within a CAMHS setting.
  • Knowledge of treatment modalities such as DBT, CBT, and Systemic Therapy.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Supervision skills.

Full Qualifications to be Achieved by Second Gateway:

  • Management Qualification Level 5 and above.
