The salary for this permanent Midwife job is £61,529 - £65.805 per annum.

Main Duties:

  • Provide accountable care for service users and their babies, acting as a lead professional for low-risk cases and coordinating care for high-risk cases in collaboration with the obstetric team.
  • Collaborative Care: Work in partnership with doctors and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure healthy outcomes, particularly when deviations from the norm occur. Arrange interpreting services to assist service users and families with limited or no English, ensuring effective communication.
  • Provide effective leadership, serve as a role model, and supervise and teach both qualified and unqualified staff as needed.
  • Perform clinical tasks and risk assessments, including urinalysis, physiological measurements, blood sugar testing, infant feeding, venepuncture, cannulation, catheterization, wound swabs, eye swabs, CTG, MRSA swabs, stool samples, sputum specimens. Accurately record data on EPR/MEWS and escalate concerns appropriately. Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.
  • Assist and support doctors during medical procedures, including instrumental and operative deliveries, while maintaining competency in these areas
  • Provide comprehensive education, advice, and counseling to service users and their families, discussing care options and directing them to relevant resources and agencies.
  • Recognise professional limitations and engage in continuous professional development, maintaining a portfolio for revalidation.
  • Participate in the ongoing review, development, and improvement of maternity services through quality audits and contributions to policy and guideline development.
  • Take a proactive approach to risk management, reporting learning points through DATIX and collaborating with colleagues to reduce risks in service delivery in line with clinical governance.
  • Exhibit professional behavior and attitude, acting as a positive role model and respecting privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Understand and implement medication safety principles, including the administration, storage, and handling of medicines. Engage in discussions with service users, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate information regarding medicines.
  • Identify safeguarding issues and make relevant referrals to ensure support for service users and their families.
  • Confidently support service users choosing to birth in various settings, including consultant-led labor wards, midwifery-led units, and home births.

Requirements of the Midwife:

  • Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Degree in Midwifery or equivalent qualification.
  • Certified in Basic Adult Life Support.
  • Qualified to Safeguarding Level 3.
  • Certifications in clinical skills such as PROMPT, BFI, cannulation, and venepuncture.
  • Qualified in the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE).
  • Certified in Neonatal Life Support.
