Salary: £43,742 - £50,056 per annum (depending on experience)

Job Purpose

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapy Team Lead to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals following acquired brain injury, traumatic brain injury, incomplete spinal injury, or other neurological conditions. At times throughout the year, you will also support a small number of clients requiring general in-patient rehabilitation, in collaboration with local NHS Trusts. Outpatient services are also provided.

Sanctuary Personnel seeks a dynamic, motivated, and forward-thinking individual with a passion for neurorehabilitation to join our client's team. You will lead and support the Occupational Therapy team to deliver clinical excellence and high-quality care within a well-established multi-disciplinary team (MDT).

As part of this strong MDT, you will lead in embedding evidence-based practice within the OT team. Innovative practice is encouraged to maximise their clients' time within the rehabilitation unit, promoting an enabling approach with comprehensive discharge planning. Collaboration with the admissions and discharge coordinator and community therapy teams is essential. Understanding and appreciating other disciplines, along with excellent communication skills, are crucial in this role. Experience in supervising junior staff and teaching is required.

There are ample opportunities for continuing professional development and learning through various mediums. You will be supported by and report to the Head of Clinical Services, with clinical supervision in place.

Growing demand for their services, combined with their commitment to delivering the highest standards of care and treatment, inspired the move to their new, modern Care and Rehabilitation Centre in July 2020. This Centre, especially designed for them, provides a fantastic hub of expertise and technology for people with a wide range of disabilities. It is located next to their head office in Leatherhead, Surrey.

Role Responsibilities

About the Role

  • Effectively lead the Occupational Therapy team, fostering an inclusive, supportive, professional, and progressive culture aimed at delivering high-quality, safe, and person-centred care.
  • Oversee the day-to-day organisation of Occupational Therapy services, ensuring timely, appropriate, and effective treatment and discharge planning for all clients.
  • Work autonomously to provide comprehensive assessments of clients with neurological injuries or impairments, including those with complex presentations, and develop holistic treatment plans.
  • Utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills, evidence-based practice, current NICE guidelines, and clinical expertise to determine appropriate rehabilitation programmes and discharge/continuing care plans.
  • Oversee the quality and efficiency of the OT team’s clinical resources, providing support to less experienced OTs.
  • Manage your own clinical caseload and maintain up-to-date professional documentation according to professional and departmental standards.
  • Assess and monitor clients to progress them through rehabilitation, optimising their recovery of physical and cognitive function.
  • Act as a key worker for clients, coordinating a safe, smooth, and timely discharge in collaboration with all relevant personnel.
  • Offer a wide range of Occupational Therapy interventions and approaches, demonstrating expertise in FES, splinting, complex posture and seating requirements, and upper limb management.
  • Actively participate in various MDT clinical meetings, providing expert OT opinion to support the client rehabilitation journey, including MDM and ward rounds, discharge, rehab planning, and family meetings.
  • Demonstrate clinical effectiveness and change through intervention, setting discipline-specific and wider MDT goals, and completing relevant outcome measures.
  • Complete required reports for discharge or funding purposes.
  • Conduct necessary home and discharge visits for clients and assist the wider Occupational Therapy team as needed, ensuring safety and effective monitoring of lone working.
  • Identify and prescribe appropriate equipment for clients with neurological conditions.
  • Explore and promote options for Occupational Therapy Service development, working with senior occupational therapists and the wider team to implement and monitor changes in practice.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Clinical Services and the senior leadership team to identify, propose, and support the implementation of changes to neurorehabilitation practice, ensuring a well-planned and cohesive integrated therapy service.
  • Supervise, teach, and manage junior Occupational Therapy staff, including assistants and students.
  • Participate in CPD, appraisal processes, and other developmental activities, encouraging team members to do likewise.
  • Participate in or lead investigations of incidents and complaints related to the OT team, working with the Head of Clinical Services and in accordance with organisational policy.
