The salary for this permanent Governance Lead job is £77.092.81 - £81,507.76 per annum.

Main Duties:

  • Develop and implement governance processes within specific care groups to support the Quality & Safety Strategy, enhancing staff skills, knowledge, and experience to consistently improve quality, safety, and care outcomes.
  • Provide guidance and direction on the quality and safety strategy, including Clinical Audit, Effectiveness and Quality Improvement Strategy, Duty of Candour Policy, Safety Event Learning Policy, and Serious Event Framework, to ensure the achievement of quality and safety governance objectives with clear monitoring and assurance reporting.
  • Foster an effective and proactive quality and safety governance culture by utilising communication and engagement techniques, embedding systems thinking, human factors, and just culture principles in all safety activities.
  • Analyse qualitative and quantitative data from quality and safety governance processes, present findings to facilitate learning, and enable the development of an environment that delivers high-quality health and social care.
  • Enhance cross-organisational learning by integrating data from quality and safety management systems, improving skills and knowledge across the organisation, and creating a shared vision for safe, high-quality, person-centred care.
  • Drive and monitor the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines based on evidence from NICE, professional bodies, local quality improvement activities, patient feedback, and internal and external reviews.
  • Provide assurance and exception reports to disseminate findings from audits and quality improvement initiatives, escalate areas requiring immediate action, and produce implementation plans where necessary.
  • Maintain current knowledge of both local and National information on quality and safety, disseminating information across care groups to support an effective safety culture and networking within National quality and safety forums.
  • Support care group managers and service leads in reviewing moderate and severe harm events, ensuring correct grading, training staff in investigation techniques, and identifying areas for safety improvement.
  • Coordinate and prepare care groups for external accreditation, audit, regulation, and inspection, ensuring services meet required standards.

Requirements of the Governance Lead:

  • Professional Health and/or Social Care Qualification
  • Educated to degree level
  • Minimum of 5 years post relevant professional qualification with evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the area of speciality
  • Registered nurse on the NMC register / Paramedic on the HPC register / ODP on the HPC register
  • Extensive experience working in a Health Care and/or a Community Care environment in a senior position
  • Relevant management qualification
  • Relevant teaching/coaching qualification
  • Substantial experience in quality and safety governance and assurance
  • Knowledge of essential safety procedures, including reporting, safety alerts, and regulatory requirements
  • Evidence of the ability to undertake investigations (including RCA methodology), prepare and deliver reports, and monitor performance and action plans
  • Ability to constructively challenge processes and behaviours in relation to Quality and Safety Governance and Risk
