Sanctuary International nurse promoted to Clinical Development Nurse

By Luke Aldred

We knew there was something rather special about Jyoti when our international recruitment team put her forward for an interview at Oxford Health. Now, less than nine months since she joined City Community Hospital as a nurse, she’s been promoted to the role of Clinical Development Nurse.

Honestly, we could not be more thrilled for Jyoti as she takes her first steps in a hugely rewarding role.

Jyoti’s journey

For those of you who do not know Jyoti, here’s a little bit about her that we know she doesn’t mind us sharing. No stranger to busy city living, she is from the city of Lucknow, the capital of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh in India, where she enjoyed many years working as a nurse. But she had her sights set on overseas nursing and was already living in France when she joined Sanctuary International as a candidate.

In France though, she had the language barrier to contend with. So, when she saw that we were recruiting on behalf of Oxford Health NHS Trust for City Community Hospital, she immediately wanted to apply. She had wanted to work for the NHS for some time, and Oxford was the perfect location for her to live and work.

Getting ready for practice

Before accepting a role, Jyoti – as many international nurses working as registered nurses in the UK must - had to pass an English language test and the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) that assesses nursing skills.

None of this fazed Jyoti, though, as our international recruitment and relocation team made sure she had all the support she needed. Before she knew it, she was already on her way to the UK.

Commenting on her appointment, Director of Permanent & International Recruitment, Luke Aldred says:

“Jyoti was an absolute pleasure to support. She is clearly very passionate about the NHS. She already knew a lot about working in the UK from friends who had made the move, but she also did a lot of her own research and was very open in her capability and ambitions, which is why we knew she would be a great fit for City Community Hospital.”

A promising career

We were not at all surprised when we received the news that Jyoti had been promoted to Clinical Development Nurse inside of nine months. She replaces Steve, who has been seconded as a practice teacher in Learning & Development and is thrilled to see her step up. In an Oxford Health blog, Steve shares his delight by saying:

“There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing your colleagues develop and grow. That’s obviously been the case with Jyoti and in such a short space of time. That’s a huge credit to her.”

Commenting on her success, Jyoti goes on to say that her promotion “would not have been possible without support from Steve, my manager Christine and matron Adegboyega, and all of my team.”

That’s why it’s so important to find and place international healthcare professionals who are not just highly qualified but who are the right fit for each team, as Sanctuary International’s Luke adds:

“We knew that City Community Hospital was, and still is, looking for international nurses who are motivated to provide the very best care. To know that we’ve played such a pivotal role in Jyoti’s journey is hugely rewarding. It’s why we do what we do.

“We wish Jyoti every success in her new role!”
